Description

Position Overview:

Independently performs components of a research program as directed by a senior member of the research team. A Research Associate may be involved in designing certain aspects of research projects and independently conducts work complementary to the overall research objectives. Researches a variety of areas, such as new or existing products, science, social science, law, or medicine. Analyzes verbal or statistical data to prepare reports and studies for use by professional workers. Develops plans for project or studies guidelines for project prepared by professional staff members to outline research and/or development procedures to be followed. Plan schedule according to the variety of methods to be used, availability of resources, and the number of subordinate personnel assigned to participate in the project; collects, analyzes and interprets data. Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions. May work individually or as part of a project team. Presents finding to higher-level staff. May assist in the establishment of experimental protocols, design, and documentation. Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems. Possesses solid working knowledge of the subject matter. Typically reports to a department head.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

The IoT lab at the University of Central Oklahoma is looking for a post-doctoral or masters research assistant with a degree in electrical engineering or mechatronics. The candidate will be working on research related to Antennas and Medical Imaging Systems. Knowledge in Antennas and programming experience is preferred. The ideal candidate should be a proactive, independent, and self-driven leader who can lead the research with minimum instruction and have the flexibility to work as a group and independently.

Specific Research Tech Responsibilities:

  1. Perform routine and non-routine tests and analyses using the appropriate technical equipment and instruments
  2. Receive or collect, as well as process samples
  3. Determining and performing tests needed for the analysis and report
  4. Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations
  5. Lab management/organizing and report writing

Scope & Impact: This position is an intermediate-level independent contributor whose actions may have a significant impact on a department's operations. This position may also affect the operations of multiple work areas.

Communication & Interaction: Interacts with various levels within or outside the University to provide service, interpret and explain ideas and concepts, as well as resolve issues.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates functional expertise in a particular domain. Demonstrates ability to operate independently and without supervision for day-to-day operations.

Problem Solving & Judgement: Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures, generally accepted principles, and methods. Resolves day-to-day operational issues by collecting and interpreting information. Solutions may include modifying procedures and methods to address new conditions and may incorporate advice and input as needed from supervisor. This role includes broad responsibilities requiring the application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions. Problems generally require significant analysis and judgment. Solutions may include adapting existing policies and systems to address unique situations.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by identifying operational needs and requirements. May assist with research, requirements gathering, or other related efforts to develop budgetary requirements.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for applying organizational policies and procedures and/or determining appropriate processes to follow.

Reporting Relationships: Generally reports to a manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior-level staff members.

Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities: May provide functional subject matter expertise and guidance to junior staff.

Qualifications Qualifications Required:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in job related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in chosen filed that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

Qualifications Preferred:

Educational qualification includes but is not limited to a BS in microbiology/cell biology/biology/biochemistry/biomedical science or any other relevant field. Biology/physiology/biochemistry lab or all relevant experience handling cell culture, staining/microscopy, and analysis.
