Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum two years journeyman level plumbing experience.

Position Summary:

This position involves skilled manual and technical work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and heating systems. Work involves performance of skilled plumbing tasks in maintaining, repairing, and servicing a variety of fixtures and equipment. Routine maintenance, service, and repair work are performed independently. Assignments are normally received orally or through written work orders. Work is performed under the general supervision of a shop foreman, may on occasion involve the supervision of trades helpers, and may on occasion involve work beyond normal duty hours resulting from emergency or high priority work.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair steam and hot water boilers and associated system equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, maintain and repair building plumbing systems and components.
  • Read and understand oral and written instructions and to work from blueprints and sketches.
  • Understand and apply standard trade practices in performing work.
  • Prepare simple, clear and concise written description of work performed.

Physical Demands:

  • Lift (up to 75 lbs) stooping, crawling, standing, walking, climbing stairs, work with hands above head, work from a standard, and/or extended ladder and from scaffolding.
  • Work is performed in both buildings and outside and at times involves working while exposed to adverse weather conditions.

Repairs and inserts valves and ball cocks, packs faucets, repairs waste, sewage, and drainage pipes, replaces broken fixtures and installs new fixtures, caulks and packs joints.
