Job Details

Dance Instructional Staff The School of Theatre Arts at Illinois Wesleyan University is seeking applications for a full time Dance Instructional Staff beginning August 2022.  We are seeking candidates with breadth of knowledge, familiarity with the speed of theatrical production, facility for collaboration and ability to pass on skills and knowledge to our students. Ideally, experience in higher education and a Bachelors/BFA degree are required, MFA preferred. Candidates with evidence of these skills at a professional level are also encouraged to apply.  This position combines both teaching and production responsibilities. 

Responsibilities include:

Teaching:  The successful candidate must be able to teach in two or more areas of dance technique: ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz, broadway repertory, ballroom, world dance (which may include one or more areas of hip hop, pop-lock, Afro-Caribbean, West-African, emerging dance forms, etc - this list is not exhaustive). A typical teaching load is 2.5 courses each semester. Choreography: The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate sophistication, ethical production practice and collaboration when staging dance for theatrical work (plays, musicals, dance concerts, devised projects) as well as the ability to mentor student choreographers.  Administrative: The successful candidate will contribute to the work of the School of Theatre Arts by: academic advising of students, managing the dance spaces for the school, advising the annual student choreographed dance concert, participating in decisions regarding school policies, working in collaboration with the coordinator of the dance division and by assisting with student recruiting efforts for the school.    The School of Theatre Arts seeks candidates whose artistic work, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.  Diversity in our environment embraces the acceptance of a multiplicity of diverse backgrounds and worldviews.  We translate these values into action by seeking individuals who have experience and expertise working with diverse students, colleagues, and constituencies, as we believe that such experiences are both institutional and service imperatives.  We encourage applications from individuals with demonstrated knowledge of and relevant abilities working with diverse communities.
