Job Description

The Financial Literacy Graduate Assistant in the Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement will work closely with the Financial Education Coordinator to increase visibility and effectiveness of Texas A&M University- San Antonio’s financial literacy efforts (outreach, programming events, partnerships, etc.) The Financial Literacy Graduate Assistant must be a self-motivated learner, efficient problem solver, and excel at multitasking in a fast-paced environment. The graduate assistant must exemplify the Mays Center mission, vision and values being professional, courteous, positive and ethical in every interaction and task.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating office hours, presentations, and other outreach for Financial Literacy Fellows; filling in, when necessary

  • Supervision of, collaboration with, and mentoring of undergraduate Financial Literacy Fellows, including tracking Fellowship completion

  • Developing, promoting, administering, and evaluating the success of financial education events

  • Creating effective, unique content for website, presentation materials, and handouts

  • Assisting with communication and follow-up with mentees via intake and exit surveys and other evaluations

  • Developing and administering financial literacy content on social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

  • Assisting with the development, promotion, administration, and interpretation of surveys

  • Attending and playing an active role in meetings, and staff meeting on a weekly basis. Conduct and arrange student meetings

  • Presenting curriculum both on and off campus

  • Along with Financial Education Coordinator, evaluating the effectiveness of financial literacy presentations and print materials, and when necessary, revise such materials

  • Expanding the Financial Literacy brand through Student Organizations, and campus offices

  • Liaising with community organizations and campus departments to develop positive partnerships for financial literacy programming

  • Assisting with other financial education efforts as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • Student must be in College of Business (MBA or MPA) program

  • Experience with supervising others

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of Finance, and/or Financial Literacy: student must be at least familiar with A&M-SA’s Financial Literacy programming

  • Strong desire to learn and contribute to the overall mission of the TAMU-SA Financial Literacy program

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Excel (run/filter reports, analyze data and creating mail merges, charts, and graphs)

  • Create data reports with narratives that tell story about our metrics

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Able to work effectively with diverse group of people

  • Comfortable with conducting outreach

  • Excellent customer service

  • Ability to work independently

  • Flexible Schedule

Preferred Experience:

  • Event planning experience is highly desirable

Availability and Hours:

  • Graduate will work 20 hours per week Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm with some evenings and weekends.
