Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Temporary CLE Instructor on the Dahlonega campus. This part-time position in the Center for Language Education (CLE) involves teaching English classes in-person and online, as needed; assisting with delivering online classes through the TEFL Certificate; creating lesson plans and syllabi; monitoring student progress; assessing students - written essay, spoken English fluency, group work, and online participation; co-teaching a creativity and critical thinking class and American culture class; driving the CLE students on some weekends to major cultural and historical sites in and around Atlanta as well as the north-east of Georgia; assisting with some marketing and promotion of CLE programs to domestic and international students. The CLE is located in the College of Education (https://ung.edu/cle).

Responsibilities
  • Teach English classes (Intensive English Preparation) approximately 8-10 hours a week;
  • Assist, as needed, teaching an online TEFL Certificate approximately 2 hours a week (there are four online courses);
  • Create syllabi, prepare classes, and implement lesson plans;
  • Assign and correct homework and tests;
  • Monitor student progress within course cycle and communicate with students regularly;
  • Maintain record-keeping in accordance to schools' policies and procedures (attendance, student progress, weekly reports);
  • Assist, as needed, in the CLE's recruitment and marketing strategies through zoom calls, CLE website, and social media;
  • Assign group projects, key assessments, practicum, and end-of-course summative essay
  • Participate in monthly staff meeting and professional development workshops;
  • Teach a reading/writing or integrated English class twice a week and co-teach an American Culture class and Creativity and Critical Thinking course once a week;
  • Drive the CLE students on some weekends to a cultural and historical site in or around Atlanta or the north-east of Georgia.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Works well collaboratively and independently.
  • Interested in working with and learning from international students.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.
  • Possess some social media and digital marketing strategies to promote the CLE internationally and domestically.
  • Attend bimonthly CLE meetings each semester.
  • Responsible, motivated, creative, innovative, dedicated, and self-managed.
  • Possess a patient, positive, and upbeat attitude with a community-building perspective.
  • Knowledge of linguistics, second language acquisition, and English grammar.
  • Some experience teaching an online integrated English skills course that developed students - confidence and competence listening, speak, reading, and writing.
  • Willingness to work some weekends and independently
  • Ability to drive or willing to learn to drive a 15-passenger van.
Required Qualifications
  • MEd in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), Linguistics, or Education is required.
  • Driver's License required.
  • A minimum four (4) years teaching experience in-person is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Online instruction preferred.
  • International teaching experience is preferred.
