OPS Dental Assistant
Job Description:The College of Dentistry is recruiting for an OPS Dental Assistant located in Yulee, FL in the Wildlight community. The Dental Assistant works in the University of Florida College of Dentistry, Wildlight Clinic, and assists dentists and hygienists in treating patients as outlined in the State of Florida Dental laws. This position mainly assists with dental operatory set-up, and assists at chairside providing dental support services.Duties include working with faculty and staff members to ensure the proper delivery of dental care to patients, managing laboratory cases, and scheduling follow-up appointments as needed. Specific duties include:- Assist dentists and hygienists in treating patients as outlined in the State of Florida dental laws.
- Assist with dental operatory set-up and cleaning operatory areas. Assists chairside, providing dental support services.
- Work with faculty and staff members to ensure the delivery of dental care to patients.
- Assist with routine operative procedures using nitrous oxide, hygiene procedures and oral and IV sedation.
- Takes impressions, xrays, place matrices and wedges.
- Assist in various fourhanded techniques, such as grasping and transferring instruments.
- Greet and prepares patients for treatment.
- Prepare patient for dental treatment by welcoming, seating, and making patient comfortable.
- Take patient health history and performs charting functions with provider.
- Take patient radiographs.
- Package and sterilize clinical supplies and instruments.
- Assist in stocking, ordering and controlling the use of clinical supplies.
- Provide customer service, as required for front desk back-up.
- Answer incoming calls from patients, dentists, and other dental care providers (internal and external), etc.
- Respond to patients’, and dentists’ questions directly within scope of position.
- Schedule patient appointments and obtains prior dental records, as needed.
- Coordinate laboratory cases, schedules patient appointments, and recall visits.
- Cross-training will be required to assist with the front and the back of the dental clinic.
Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) Certification demonstrating the successful completion of training as specified in Chapter 64B5-16, Florida Administrative Code.
Working knowledge of all phases of dental treatment.
Ability to work effectively with patients and providers.
