Position Information: DescriptionThe vision of the University of North Dakota Artificial Intelligence Research Initiative is to pursue new frontiers in artificial intelligence and education that enables the development of the next generation of intelligence technologies that improve the efficiency, functionality and reliability of intelligent systems.

To realize this vision, the Artificial Intelligence Research Initiative has established the following mission:

    Facilitate the coordination of CEM’s multidisciplinary artificial intelligence education, research, development and commercialization activities in partnership with UND campus units, other NDUS campuses, and federal, state, and industrial partners.Provide a well-trained work force cognizant of the current state of the art in artificial intelligence by engaging students in education and research in relative topic areas.

Develop a multi-disciplinary team capable of taking advantage of any project opportunities that become available.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and construct various instruments, develop artificial intelligence systems, train and implement deep learning neural networks, and create computer vision algorithms
  • Process and system design
  • Preparation of proposals for obtaining funding of research projects
  • Other research related duties
Required Competencies
  • Record of success as a researcher with demonstrated ability to:
  • Formulate a research plan
  • Set up a research program to meet the specific needs of a client
  • Independently write research reports
  • Excellent writing/communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft OfficeMinimum Requirements
    • Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree
    • Masters or bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of directly related experience
    • Masters thesis in artificial intelligence or computer vision
  • Experience in supervising others and conducting research
  • This position requires U.S. Citizenship due to federal government contract(s)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software – Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel
  • Successful completion of Criminal History Records Check

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Three years’ non-student experience
    • Supervision experience
    • Computer vision experience a plus
    • Experience managing research projects
    Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

    $69,000 / year; exempt; benefited; full-time

    Work Schedule

    Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
