Job Description
The University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Neurology is seeking a Social Worker (SW) to work within the Clinical Center for Adults with Neuro-Developmental Disorders (CCAND) located at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopedics Institute (UMROI). The CCAND functions to evaluate and provide comprehensive care to adult individuals with autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy. The candidate should have some experience working with adults with neurological disorders such as epilepsy and autism. In this position, the SW will function with significant practice autonomy, assisting the physician and CRNP staff with social and financial challenges faced by our patients and families. The SW should have some experience with EPIC electronic medical record software. The SW will interface with the Maryland Epilepsy Center and the Department of Neurology faculty. The SW will participate in bi-weekly patient care and administrative meetings.

This position is eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus. Half will be paid within the first 30 days of employment and half will be paid upon successful completion of probation. Current UMB employees are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.

Primary Duties:

  • Work under the supervision of a Social Worker (LCSW-C) and applies the theories, knowledge, procedures, methods, and/or ethics derived from a formal educational program in social work to restore or enhance social functioning of individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations or communities through assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and advocacy to maximize the individual’s well-being.
  • Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify and construct service plans that best meet the client’s needs, and determine best resources available.
  • Develop plans by identifying programs and services available for a variety of client issues dealing with challenges, change, and crisis.
  • Maintain case history records and document client(s) progress. May perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports and other accountability measures.
  • Counsel individuals, groups, families, or communities regarding issues including mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, child care, and/or medical care in accordance with licensure.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to others preparing for use of resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in Social Work.

Certification/Licensure: Licensed Master Social Work (LMSW) in the State of Maryland. Applicants sitting for theirlicensure exam within a reasonale time (1-2 months) will beconsidered.

Other: No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.

Hiring Range: Mid-$50,000s to mid-$60,000s; commensurate with education and experience.
