Wenzhou-Kean Library and Learning Commons Director

Kean, a comprehensive New Jersey state university, is seeking a Library and Learning Commons Director for its additional instructional location in Wenzhou, China. Wenzhou is one of the most vibrant and economically advanced cities on China's East Coast, located one hour by plane and just over three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai. Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres, currently enrolls 4,800 undergraduate and graduate students and is now in the midst of a growth phase that will bring enrollment to more than 10,000 students within the foreseeable future. WKU is approved by the Ministry of Education of China and is approved as an additional location of Kean University by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The Library and Learning Commons Director (LLCD) is the lead administrator for the Library and Learning Commons at Wenzhou-Kean University. Under the direction of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA) at Wenzhou-Kean University and in collaboration with the Executive Director of the Learning Commons at the Union, NJ campus, the LLCD is responsible for the overall administration of the WKU Library and Learning Commons (WKU LLC).

The Library and Learning Commons Director is an employee of Kean University. This position is located at the Wenzhou-Kean University campus in Wenzhou, China but travel is required to the Kean USA campus on an as needed basis. A flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours is also required. Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Library and Information Science, Library Science or a similar program and a minimum of three years of professional library supervisory experience in an institution of higher education or directly related entity is required. A Master’s or Doctoral degree from an ALA or equivalent program; a second subject Master’s or Doctoral degree or equivalent academic course accomplishment; and experience with/expertise in architectural collection resources is preferred. Important qualifications include: demonstrated experience and expertise in learning support and digital information resources; a clear strategic vision; ability to develop a strong library staff team to support teaching, learning and research for the academic community; technology management skills including the ability to train and assist others to work with digital resources; ability to plan, initiate and implement effective programs, projects and services; ability to plan, conduct and evaluate library information literacy activities; knowledge of the principles of budget planning, development and administration; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, university administrators, alumni and the community; and a demonstrated sensitivity to cultural differences. International professional work experience is strongly preferred.
