PURPOSEThe Director of Institutional Advancement (DIA) is an enterprising, dynamic, and highly capable executive on the senior leadership team. The EDIA secures significant philanthropic support for LCCW’s vision, mission, and strategic goals. S/he is expected to sustain and deepen the tradition of alumni philanthropic support, engage the greater LCCW community with advancement efforts, inspire new thinking, seek out creative and innovative sources of philanthropic support, and work in partnership with the President, the Executive VP, the Provost, faculty, staff, and others to support LCCW’s fundraising activities.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and serving on the senior executive team, the DIA has broad authority to shape and expand LCCW’s philanthropic program. Key outcomes include the successful completion of current capital campaigns, establishing the plan and processes for generating a lasting endowment fund, planning the fundraising capital campaign for new campus enhancements, establishing an enduring legacy program, and grant writing program, and engaging alumni through the LCCW Alumni Association and alumni participation and giving initiatives.

As an integral member of the senior executive team charged with campus wide strategic planning in the Advancement and Alumni areas, the DIA will employ his/her knowledge and experience with best practices related to these functional areas through the efficient operation of the fundraising database and outreach system, the development and administration of efficient office systems and processes, and the development of other essential infrastructures designed to ensure maximum success toward LCCW’s fundraising and endowment goals. The incumbent will ensure that the department’s budget and resources are aligned with business objectives for maximum productivity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Vice President, President, Provost, Executive Director of Admissions, and Research Director on fundraising plans and execution, capital campaigns, endowment projects, legacy giving, grants, tactics, logistics, and all related activities pursuant to the Strategic Plan.
  2. Successfully complete any current College fundraising campaign.
  3. Establish the plan and processes for generating a lasting endowment fund.
  4. Plan and execute capital campaigns for campus enhancements.
  5. Establish an enduring legacy program.
  6. Establish grant writing programs in collaboration with the Research department, Health Center, and other departments of the College
  7. Engage alumni through the LCCW Alumni Association and alumni participation and giving initiatives.
  8. Plan, promote and produce annual homecoming event which includes the signing of vendors and sponsors in collaboration with the President, Executive Vice President and other departments to ensure a financially successful event
  9. Maintain best practice expertise in annual giving and alumni relations through participation in regional and national networks, industry-related associations, and other local business and community leadership groups.
  10. Work with the Executive Director of Admissions, recruitment, and outreach team to coordinate travel, budget, outreach, and fundraising opportunities.
  11. Work with other LCCW staff to articulate and coordinate branding, public relations, and representation opportunities and priorities.
  12. Maintain the fundraising database and outreach system at a high level of efficiency; maintain efficient and effective office procedures, analysis, reporting, and dashboard; maintain an appropriate level of internal communications; report and track results, and prepare formal internal reports as needed.
  13. Provide directed guidance and leadership for the Director of Alumni Relations, and any other team members, and any other instant team members on strategic goals and objectives and daily outputs.
  14. Set and manage team goals and KPIs, develop and manage the office budget, set annual performance standards, and evaluate staff performance.
  15. Support special projects and initiatives of the Executive VP and President, develop strategic plans and solicit and support volunteers.

  6. Training: College employees are expected to attend College-provided training sessions and meetings when deemed necessary or required.
  7. Continuous Improvement: College employees are expected to give attention to continuous assessment and improvement of the position's assigned set of duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

The DIA is an experienced and talented fundraiser with a successful track record in the leadership of giving programs, alumni engagement, and successful grant writing. He or she will have the particular ability to develop and execute strategy at both the departmental and executive levels. A collaborative approach to leadership is a fundamental requirement as the DIA must interact with many and diverse individuals and programs to optimize the performance of his/her team. Doing so requires the ability to work productively and happily with alumni leaders, LCCW colleagues, volunteers, and College leadership. Diplomacy, tact, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and above all unquestioned integrity are necessary for the EDIA.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  2. A minimum of ten (10) years of direct fundraising and engagement experience is required, preferably in the non-profit sector, with a strong preference for leadership experience in a comprehensive campaign.
  3. Fundraising systems experience, as well as access to or knowledge of the not-for-profit foundation community, is required.
  4. Experience with grant writing and management reporting is essential.
  5. Experience with and understanding financial matters and execution/implementation is required.
  6. Executive leadership experience in an institution of considerable organizational complexity is advantageous.
The successful candidate must also have proven success in managing individuals and teams. He or she will have demonstrated success in understanding the varying priorities and approaches to annual giving (including reunion giving, leadership giving, direct appeals, young alumni, etc.) and alumni programming and events.


While leadership skills and experience are paramount, significant senior management experience, including personnel and budgetary management as well as substantial strength in managing through metrics and analysis, is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment.
