Responsibilities

This position is responsible for providing 24-27 hours of instruction per academic year in English, for participating in curriculum development, and working with the annual assessment of the first-year English program. This instructor will primarily teach in day, evening, and online programs. The instructor is expected to maintain office hours, to attend meetings, and to participate in the governance of the college at the department, discipline, campus, and college-wide levels.

Qualifications

A minimum of a Ph.D. degree in English in the field of Rhetoric and Composition is required. Specialization in curriculum research in any one of the following areas is required: first-year English, developmental English, writing in the disciplines. The ideal candidate will also have training to teach courses in Gender Studies.  Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level. The candidate should have taught English at the collegiate level previously, possess strong oral and written communication skills, and be able to teach at the learning support level. Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology and knowledge of assessment practices in composition is required. The candidate will have the ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to diverse students, and facilitate student learning.
