Job Id: 858 # of Openings: 1 Job OverviewReporting to the Director of Infrastructure and Security, the Network and Instructional Systems Specialist is the service owner for Wheaton College’s Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) unified communications systems, analog phone services, fax services, and assists the Network/Telecommunications Engineer with daily operations and maintenance of the Wheaton College wired and wireless data network. This position also works collaboratively with other technical staff in planning and designing the specialized technology in classrooms, meeting rooms, and auditoriums. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the design, development, management, maintenance, networking, and security of IT systems used in Technology Enhanced Spaces.
  • Function as the service owner of Wheaton’s unified communications systems and fax service by managing daily operational tasks for phone, voicemail, contact center (Five9), and fax systems (XMedius), including moves, adds, and changes, creating employee accounts for these services; maintaining the E911 database; and troubleshooting, testing, and monitoring to ensure reliable service to all customers
  • Manage the network access control system (e.g., FortiNAC)
  • Assist AIT’s Network/Telecommunications Engineer with daily operations and maintenance of the campus wired and wireless network
  • Manage assigned projects to ensure a timely completion within budget and scheduling constraints. Enlist support from areas within and without AIT as needed. Maintain good communication with stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain documentation, such as CAD and Visio drawings, for systems supported by this position
  • Working collaboratively with the Service Desk, to ensure they have the proper training and documentation to provide timely tier 1 support for faculty, students, and staff
  • Effectively utilize Incident, Change and Problem Management
  • Evaluate new and emerging voice and network technologies and recommend solutions appropriate for Wheaton’s communications infrastructure
  • Maintain knowledge and skills in the developing areas of unified communications, classroom control and presentation technologies, and data networking
  • Assist end users including training, orienting, and supporting their use of technology systems
  • Compile regular reports, participate in staff meetings, and deliver presentations as requested
  • This position requires the use of a personal cell phone
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree in information technology or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong customer service, email, and phone etiquette skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work effectively with minimal direct supervision, and exhibit self-motivated initiative
  • Understanding of CAD and Construction/Project applications such as AutoCAD, Visio & Smartsheet.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with AV hardware technology including Crestron, Kramer Via, and general IOT technologies
  • Preferred: experience managing data networking technologies
  • Preferred: experience configuring, operating, and supporting video conferencing equipment and presentation systems
  • Preferred: experience with the operations, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications systems and equipment, especially Microsoft Teams Voice software and devices
  • Preferred: experience managing fax services, especially XMedius fax management system
Physical RequirementsThe employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 50 pounds.
