JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Student Activities (DSA) at the University of Connecticut announces the opening of a full-time Coordinator of Leadership Programs (Student Services Program Coordinator). This position plans, coordinates, executes, and collaborates on multiple and varied student leadership development programs and services including the Leadership Learning Community, various student leader trainings, student leader recognition initiatives, and more. Additionally, this position is responsible for the recruitment, training, and supervision of students.

The Department of Student Activities offers a diverse portfolio of educational, social, and recreational programs for the entire campus. The related programs and services reach from the classroom and residence halls to the sidelines and beyond and engage students with unique programs and initiatives defined by their quality, creativity, and effectiveness.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position works under the limited supervision of the Associate Director of Student Activities/Director of Leadership and Organizational Development and plans, coordinates, and implements/delivers student leadership development programs and services in the Leadership and Organizational Development area which includes the advisement and/or supervision of undergraduate or graduate of students. Specifically, this position is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and implementing various leadership development programs and major events including but not limited to budgeting, marketing, curriculum development, making all necessary program arrangements, and program execution; developing and facilitating customized educational workshops, seminars and retreats related to student leadership development; coordinating the recruitment and selection process for student leadership development experiences, scholarships, and award programs; coordinating the appearance of prospective speakers and presenters in support of related programs including but not limited to identifying relevant topics, strategic outreach to agencies, and contract development; providing additional facilitated experiences for the University, division, department, and area as needed/requested; hiring, training, supervising, and supporting students (undergraduates and graduates); establishing collaborative relationships with University colleagues and external vendors/partners in the successful delivery of programs and services; providing on-site supervision of events/programs; assisting in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and expenditures; providing, supporting and participating in programs, services, and initiatives focusing on anti-racism, social justice and the fostering of a campus community that is more diverse, equitable, and inclusive to all; identifying, recommending, and implementing improvements related to policies, procedures and operations of programs and services; assisting in the collection and analysis of program evaluation/assessment data and the proposal of program/service improvement recommendations; serving on University/department committees and attend department staff meetings as required; assisting and/or be responsible for assigned special projects, programs, or services, which may be on-going or short-term; working nights and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree AND four years of related experience planning and conducting student leadership development/educational programs, workshops, and trainings OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of/experience applying/presenting student development theory and leadership development content.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and programming skills.
  • Experience advising and/or supervising college students.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
  • Articulated commitment to, demonstrated understanding of, and/or experience working with diverse populations.
  • Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, student counseling, or another related field.
  • Training/certification in MBTI, StrengthsQuest, and/or other similar personality assessment instruments.
  • Experience and/or ability to build relationships with community and campus partners.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of program management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment on multiple tasks.
  • Experience/ability to conduct program evaluations and assessments.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position. The University offers a competitive salary, and outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. The hiring range for this position is $54,734-$56,000 and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience.
