Job Description:


The Department of Nursing is seeking 80% (4 day/week) instructors/assistant professors for its Baccalaureate Programs to teach as a Simulation Educator throughout the nursing programs. These positions include teaching and participation in department and university governance.


General Responsibilities


  • Acts as part of the Experiential Learning Team
  • Orients faculty and or students to the skills or simulation spaces and equipment
  • Orders and maintains equipment and supplies using financial stewardship and ensuring equipment and supplies meet instructor and student needs according to the course syllabus.
  • Coordinates and maintains lab scheduling while providing clear communication of nursing skills laboratory courses and open lab times.
  • Uses evidence-based practice and measures that are current within the nursing community.
  • Performs yearly inventory, projects skills and simulation lab needs, practices financial stewardship, maintains vendor relations, maintains spreadsheet, and ensures invoices are processed.
  • Provides instruction and remediation to students at all levels of pre-licensure nursing programs according to current class content and course outcomes.
  • Oversees and or conducts Open Lab Sessions for all nursing students to practice any skill of their choosing while ensuring students learn the appropriate skills needed to be successful in their nursing program.
  • Discusses, investigates, evaluates, and recommends new equipment/technologies that can be incorporated into the nursing curriculum.
  • Trains and aids faculty in the use of new equipment and software.
  • Ensures the experiential learning areas are orderly, clean, safe, and organized.
  • Collaborates with faculty to provide course-related skills days.
  • Remains current in nursing subject matter and techniques of effective instruction.
  • Participates in Fit-testing of students and or faculty.
  • In collaboration with the Experiential Director, develops policy/procedure or Standard Operating Procedures for experiential learning areas.
  • Oversees laundry cleaning and delivery and medical waste disposal.
  • Initiates or participates in process improvement
  • Informs Dean and Director of Experiential Learning of special laboratory needs and/or requests.

Simulation Related Responsibilities


  • Serves as a faculty resource to facilitate simulation experiences integration into the curriculum.
  • Develops and delivers faculty development related to the use and integration of best practice simulation methodology according to international standards for simulation.
  • Observes, evaluates, and identifies the needs of and makes recommendations for various nursing simulation experiences to enhance students' learning.
  • Writes low and high-fidelity simulation scenarios with faculty consultation.
  • Participates in simulation evaluation, revision, data collection, and research.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates student simulation experiences.
  • Collaborates with faculty from other disciplines to facilitate interdisciplinary simulation.
  • Uses experiential learning-related software and programs to track, schedule, report, and communicate simulation-related activities.

Other Duties and Responsibilities


  • Able to operate simulation-related equipment.
  • Willing to be flexible with workdays that may include evenings and weekends.
  • Attend faculty meetings as required or requested.
  • Participate in committee work of the department.


Requirements:


  1. A baccalaureate degree in nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
  2. An earned master's or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred.
  3. A clear and current California Registered Nurse license.
  4. One year of full-time experience in client care within the past 5 years.
  5. One year of clinical teaching experience is preferred.
  6. Commitment to the university mission and the philosophy of the nursing department.
  7. A proven track record of excellent teamwork, organization, and leadership skills.
