Job Description:


SUNY Empire State College's office of Student Success and Development seeks a full-time Student Success and Development Coordinators (State Title: Senior Staff Assistant) with the expectation to support and engage students online as well as face-to-face at one of the college's locations in Selden, Brooklyn or Manhattan, NY.


Coordinator positions in Student Success and Development (SSD) are key contributors to retention efforts and assist with student issues/coaching, including managing a caseload of first term students, orienting them to the college and helping them to persist into their second term via proactive programming and individual development sessions. They also assist with targeted and data-driven outreach and issue resolution related to course status, registration outreach, emergency response, etc. SSD Coordinators promote student engagement by participating in the planning and delivering of college-wide virtual workshops and when able, college-wide and local in-person events. They also produce the Student Success Newsletter, relevant social media, and college-wide email communications.


The selected incumbent must be knowledgeable about student services at the college level and should have familiarity with working with adult students in both face-to-face and online learning environments. The selected incumbent will collaborate with a large college wide team of coordinators and assistants to provide high quality services to students across all of SUNY Empire State College. This position requires dedication to utilizing holistic student development and support approaches through different modalities of service delivery to provide an excellent student support and engagement experience.



Essential Functions:


  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and other departments to advocate for students based on individual and time-sensitive needs.
  • Utilize CRM Advise and other technology to access student information and track student interactions.
  • Assist in developing and hosting virtual and in-person student programming based upon identified needs.
  • Identify strategic milestones (i.e. orientation, students enrolled in the first term) in the student lifecycle and provide proactive outreach accordingly.
  • Partner with other offices to conduct a variety of student success outreach campaigns centered around enrollment, course completion and retention.
  • Provide success coaching to an assigned caseload of undergraduate students, and actively monitor their progress, and connect them with resources as appropriate.
  • Monitor and analyze data in order to identify retention gaps and design effective intervention strategies.
  • Support regional activities, events and relationships as needed to enhance student engagement and retention.
  • Will be responsible for leading at least team initiative such as student newsletter, social media or other.
  • Participate in staff and interdepartmental meetings and on various college-wide committees as needed.

Knowledge, Ability and Skills:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to empathize with students in need of academic and non-academic support.
  • Capable of working independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to assess student needs and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Strong organizational, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.


Requirements:


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in student services/student affairs.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, the public, the college community and external constituencies with sensitivity to the needs of older learners and an appreciation for cultural and group differences.
  • Initiative, creativity and the ability to function well in an environment that promotes both teamwork and independence.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
  • Experience with adult and non-traditional students.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff from multiple departments.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related area preferred.
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a multi-person team to provide student services and support resources to students.
  • Experience with Ellucian's Banner, CRM systems or other data management and tracking tools.
  • Experience with social media marketing, bulk emails, and student publications.

Special Information:


  • Will involve occasional travel to college locations.
  • May require evening and/or weekend work.
  • VISA sponsorship is not available.


Additional Information:


Rank/Salary: SL3/$55,000.
