Job Details
Stanford School of Medicine is seeking a post-doctoral education fellow for research on a healthcare pipeline program for STEM-interested teens from low-income high schools in the SF Bay Area. This individual will be co-mentored by a professor of surgery, whose work focuses on equity and quality in healthcare, and a professor of education, with a background in clinical-community psychology, whose work focuses on ethnic-racial socialization (ERS) and mental health. The postdoctoral fellow will engage with the day-to-day activities of the pipeline program over a 5-week summer residency; conduct mixed-methods research focused on participant mindset, self-efficacy, resilience; and will analyze secondary data on academic achievement, with the goal of developing proximal and distal measures of context-specific success in pipeline programs. The scholar will also support applied research on race-related stressors, ERS, and mental health among youth of color. Successful applicants must demonstrate a strong work ethic, some experience with qualitative and quantitative methods (ideally both), excellent scientific-writing skills, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to engage animated and motivated teens aged 14-18.
