The Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) in Aurora, Colorado is seeking a PhD with interest and expertise in the study of orthopedic conditions from the perspective of public health science.  The position involves performing research in this context with the aim of developing an independent research program in the Department of Orthopedics and the Colorado Program for Musculoskeletal Research (CPMR).  The position requires establishment of a research direction(s) that will support a federally competitive grant applications.

Upon establishment of research activity, recruitment of, hiring and supervision/mentoring of technical level staff, graduate student(s) and/or postdoctoral fellow(s) as needed

Examples of Work Performed

  • Research into orthopedic conditions using a public health and data science approaches
  • Access to, downloading of, and management of large national and international datasets for study of disease conditions
  • Biostatistical and bioinformatic analytical approaches to study said large datasets
  • Presentation and publication of findings from research activity (national venues, peer-reviewed)
  • Development of human protocols for approval by our local Human Subjects Institutional Review Board
  • Contribution to grant submissions with collaborators
  • Development of independent programmatic directions and grant applications
  • Salary Range

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $95,000 - $105,000.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD in Public Health or related field
  • Previous research activity in the orthopedic/musculoskeletal field
  • Evidence of strong publication productivity
  • History of submitting grant applications (as PI or co-I) aiming to support research activity
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in orthopedic public health and data science
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Leadership skills to garner support from/partnership with a team to develop an independent research directions
  • Ability to contribute to projects as a member of an investigative team
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of research studying scoliosis and/or arthritis
  • Evidence of awards of grants for research activity as PI
  • Peer reviewed publications in the scoliosis and/or arthritis fields
