Department Information The School of Music at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia seeks to fill a Visiting Assistant Professor position in music technology for the 2022-2023 academic year. This full-time, nine-month appointment begins in August 2022 and ends in May 2023.The School offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in music technology, along with a music minor, that develop students’ musical, technical, and theoretical skills, challenging them to transform the ways in which we create, perform, analyze, disseminate, and learn about music. In collaboration with the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology, the School’s faculty and students conduct cutting edge research in areas such as music cognition, music information retrieval, data sonification, robotic musicianship, and STEAM education. In addition, the School houses a variety of performing ensembles that attract the participation of over 1200 Georgia Tech students each year.Job Summary
The Visiting Assistant Professor is a non-tenure-track faculty member who meets the criteria for the Assistant Professor title. Visiting Assistant Professors perform teaching, research, and service duties and may continue in the position for up to two years.
Responsibilities for this appointment include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses such as Music Perception & Cognition, Technology Ensemble, and/or Introduction to Audio Technology; advising undergraduate and graduate majors in collaborative and individual research projects and theses; and pursuing an active agenda of research and creative work that advances the field of music technology and the reputation of the School.
Required Qualifications Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in music technology or in an allied field such as computer science, electrical engineering, psychology, or audio engineering. ABD candidates will also be considered if they have completed all requirements for their terminal degree except for their dissertation.Required Documents to Attach Review of applications will begin June 20, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
