Research Program Assistant II
The Department of Mental Health is seeking Four Research Program Assistant II' s who are needed for a project funded by the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, which will evaluate the health of youth and adult residents relocated from low-income housing in East Baltimore.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities of Research Assistants II will include, but will not be limited to:
  • Outreach and recruitment of study participants
  • Screening and determining eligibility of study participants
  • Scheduling and administering informed consent/assent and administrating structured interviews with study participants. Interviews will elicit information on behavioral health, sexual risk behaviors, perceived social support and environmental context.
  • Conducting follow-up activities as necessary
  • Performing basic data entry, data quality control checks, literature reviews and administrative tasks as needed
  • Research Program Assistant IIs may also lead analyses and/or assist with the development of manuscripts and reports
  • Interviews will be conducted by phone until social distancing guidelines are lifted


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula


JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with data management, managing surveys in Qualtrics, and conducting basic analysis with statistical software is preferred, but not required
  • Experience conducting in-person interviews with underrepresented racial/ethnic groups and/or under-resourced populations
  • Applicants interested in serving as interviewers for youth surveys must have prior experience interviewing youth


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and be able to coordinate multiple tasks, work independently, communicate effectively with others in community settings, and have the ability to adapt to change
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to accommodate study participants' schedules


Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
  • Familiarity with use of a tablet and desktop computer


Physical Requirements:
  • Access to transportation is ideal, as Research Program Assistant II's may be asked to travel to and attend community events offsite and support various administrative duties

Starting Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hr (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
