JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Media Specialist Effective Date: May 18, 2022

Job Summary:

The Media Specialist will apply art, design, and copy layout skills to create visually engaging promotional and branding materials, communication media, and other print and digital materials. Complete photographic assignments to produce quality photographs for use in media publications and/or university promotional materials and internal communications. Partner with other internal leaders to support digital asset management.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with client, editorial staff, project manager, creative director and/or other project participants to understand project assignments, audience, and intended message.
  • Creates original visual media that communicates the desired feeling or message in an engaging and unified way.
  • Designs brand template materials suitable for target audiences while maintaining brand standards.
  • Designs and chooses graphics and photography as appropriate.
  • Selects fonts for written copy; produces sample layout for approval by client or other project participants.
  • Prepares drafts of design work and provides samples to appropriate staff or departments for review.
  • Revises projects as necessary based on collaborative feedback process.
  • Consults with creative director and other team members as needed on complex or specialized projects.
  • Use professional expertise and skill to capture professional, high-quality images
  • Select and use appropriate photographic and/or video equipment to record events and subjects
  • Use photo editing software and applications to edit, crop, and enhance photographs
  • Assists in organizing, processing, and maintaining photo and video content in the digital asset management system (Canto).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Visually creative
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software.
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently on an assignment
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Thorough understanding of techniques, equipment, and processes related to photography.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills to give instruction and direction to subjects to be photographed
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours in addition to regularly scheduled hours.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in art, digital media, graphic design, photography, or related field. Portfolio of prior work required. 2-3 years of related work experience highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally travel for photoshoots, which may include some overnight travel.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May be asked to supervise social media work-study or internship students.
