Position Summary: 

Faculty members in the MACEM&PS report to the Executive Director and collaborate with the Program Managers in the creation of a premier, student-centered learning environment accessible to individual learners with diverse educational needs and goals. The faculty member is expected to teach 30 credits per academic year. The faculty member is expected to demonstrate motivation and excellence in curriculum and co-curricular planning and foster an atmosphere of active intellectual and creative engagement in student achievement in and out of the classroom. This position must use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1.    Teach courses within the MACEM&PS department curriculum. 
2.    Facilitate student mastery of core learning outcomes using the most relevant pedagogical and scholarly tools available.
3.    Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high quality curriculum.
4.    Engage students in critical thinking, meta-cognitive processes, and interpersonal workplace skills.
5.    Model and cultivate open-minded inquiry, an appreciation of diverse perspectives, and creative problem solving.
6.    Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences.
7.    Maintain currency in academic discipline and pedagogy by actively participating in professional organizations at the state, regional, and national levels, and by engaging in other professional development opportunities.
8.    Serve on committees and participate in department meetings.
9.    Engage in faculty duties and responsibilities as detailed in the Employee Handbook and Faculty Addendum. 
10.    Research and review applicable state and federal trends, innovations, best practices, lessons learned, and legislative changes influencing MACEM&PS course content.
11.    Develop distance education courses, including syllabi, exams, and scoring rubrics.
12.    Develop and integrate competency-based measures of student success and align them with national skills standards in areas where such standards are known.
13.    Plan and execute special projects on a rotating or as-needed basis.
14.    Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

1.    Master’s Degree
2.    Three (3) years full-time or part-time equivalent, college-level experience teaching emergency management and/or public safety courses

Desired Qualifications:

1.    Doctorate in Emergency Management or related field
2.    Certifications or experience in Emergency Management or related field
3.    Experience in competency-based adult education and training environment
4.    Experience using learning management systems and multimedia components
5.    Excellent communication skills
6.    Experience mapping courseware to industry professional competencies
