Job Summary

The Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS and Paramedic) serves as the chief instructional and operational officer for the EMT and Paramedic Programs. The Director reports directly to the Academic Dean – Nursing, Allied Health, and Skilled Trades.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for the program and establishes new procedures as necessary for efficiency. Ensures that goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications. Maintain records and prepare reports, monitor the budget and resources, participate in the strategic planning process, and assist with budget activities within program guidelines and insure excellent customer service.
  • Participate in the development and management of the current budget within established guidelines; participate in planning for next budget period through analysis of costs and past expenditure figures and estimating future costs.
  • Collaborate and assist CAC marketing staff with the development of marketing and promotional literature for distribution such as catalogs, articles, newsletters, brochures, and flyers. Distribute promotional materials to healthcare organizations, pre-hospital providers and fire departments. Maintain the EMS website.
  • Teach classes, prepare schedules including determining classes that are needed, time offered, number of sections, and assignment of the proper instructor. Ensure courses are scheduled in accordance with the Arizona Department of Health Services objectives. Develop course outlines, syllabus, and course materials that promote learning and fulfill the program objective. Maintain students’ records and grades during the term of the course; complete and return required reports to the appropriate office by due date. Share responsibility for maintaining the facilities and equipment in area used.
  • Supervise, recruit, and orient adjunct faculty. Participate in faculty development activities to update knowledge of the subject area and to remain current in the use of alternative teaching techniques and appropriate instructional technology. Ensure adjunct faculties have proper teaching credentials through the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Accrediting body.
  • Maintain up-to-date information of all state and federal guidelines, rules, and regulations pertaining to the EMT/Paramedic program, and recommend changes as necessary to ensure that the College is in compliance. Knowledgeable of current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards, and about evidenced-informed clinical practice.
  • Provide feedback to students regarding personal achievement and academic matters. Meet with students as needed to ensure student success. Assist in the advising of students for enrollment in the EMT/Paramedic program, confirm enrollment of the students in the appropriate classes, place book orders in the bookstore.
  • The position may perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position including participating in committee assignments and the recruitment and retention of students.
Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of related clinical experience and two (2) years of educational experience.

  • National Registry of EMTs-Paramedic registration
  • State of AZ. DHS/BEMS EMT Instructor
  • American Heart Association CPR Instructor (*)
  • PHTLS or ITLS Instructor
  • Must be able to travel using own transportation
  • *May obtain prior to hire.

    MUST OBTAIN WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF HIRE
  • PALS Instructor – AHA
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor – AHA
  • National Incident Management Systems 100/200/700/800 compliant
  • MUST OBTAIN AS NEEDED
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Instructor – AAP
  • Other credentials as needed to ensure students can meet course objectives

    SALARY: $61,784.00 - $65,491.00 (Dependent upon Qualifications)

    • Knowledge and skill in the application of State of AZ DHS, and other certifying agencies, College Policies and Procedures, and EMS practices and procedures.
    • Knowledge of principles and practices in administration of EMS educational programs in an institution of higher education to include state, federal, and accrediting associations/institutions.
    • Knowledge of instructional program development, planning, evaluation, and review with the ability to produce new, imaginative, or innovative solutions different from traditional approaches.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with staff, community leaders, faculty, students, and the public.
    • Skill working in a diverse multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population.
    • Knowledge and skill in operating a variety of multimedia equipment, computer systems, hardware, and relevant software applications.
    • Skill in dealing with a variety of highly confidential information, records, and sensitive situations in an effective manner..
    • Skill in counseling students on College policies and procedures.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Duties require physical effort in work with moderate (up to 100 lbs), cumbersome to handle materials. Duties performed causes fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other facilities due to long periods of standing, sitting, and repetitive motion, lifting carrying or dragging.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Job is performed partially in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements. Portions of the job may be performed in an outside environment subject to exposure to the elements including wind, dust, rain, and extreme heat.
