GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

UMass Medical School’s Information Technology Innovation Internship program is designed to provide exceptional opportunities for talented students and to strengthen UMMS’ technology ecosystem through the innovative ideas and infectious energy of the interns. The IT Intern will get an opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of dedicated individuals committed to delivering forward thinking solutions with a focus on continuous improvement and advancing the health and well-being of the people in Massachusetts and the world through ground-breaking development in education, research and health care delivery.

 

It’s an exciting time to be at UMass Medical School!  U.S. News & World Report ranks UMass Medical School 12th in the country for primary care, and this internship will provide a unique opportunity to learn and gain valuable skills in an elite academic and research institution that is among the most affordable in the country.  

 

Specifically, they will work on the vision and creation of XR, 2 and 3D video learning modules and aid in marketing those for internal users and the broader public.

 

By collaborating with faculty, learners, staff, and community members and by gaining experience with a variety of simulation and educational technology tools and methods, the IT Intern will:

 

  • Propose and create engaging, person-centered modules to support medical and nursing education utilizing a range of technology including XR, 2 and 3D video
  • Build collaborations across departments and schools to foster experiential learning and program growth
  • Showcase iCELS programming on a representative website structured to capitalize on analytics and increase community partnerships
  • Build and document formal processes and a framework to support sustainability and growth of the above after the internship is completed

    Responsibilities

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
    • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
    • Participate in team projects
    • Conduct online research
    • Perform other duties as required
    Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
    • Solid analytical and communication skills
    • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
    • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
    • Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
    • Must have above average academic performance
    Additional Information

    PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Experience creating AR and VR applications
    • Experience using a 3D game engine such as Unity
    • Experience using 3D modeling tools such as Blender or Maya
    • Experience with Unity/Unreal multiplayer
    • Experience with animation tools such as iClone
    • Experience with at least one coding language including C#, C++, or Python
    • Experience with the Adobe suite, specifically Photoshop, Premiere, and/or Substance
    • Experience in networking project management
    • Eagerness to pick up new skills and technologies as needed
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently
    • Ability to present information concisely across a variety of media
    • A developing understanding of current trends and best practices in curriculum design
    • Demonstrated experience being innovative, flexible, engaging and empowered throughout the delivery cycle
    • Outstanding listener with an attention to detail
    • Self-motivated with the ability to execute projects and provide deliverables on time
    • Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive professional relationships
    • Demonstrated commitment at the individual and team level
    • Possesses positive attitude and creativity
