Job Title:        Director of Career Center                    

Reports To:    Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs

Status:            Full-Time, 35 hours/week, Exempt    

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide overall supervision of Career Center staff and operations, including fiscal planning and management, job database system, internal and external marketing efforts, etc., to ensure the achievement of program goals and objectives.
  2. Promote Career Center to students, faculty, administrators, alumni, employers, and the general public.
  3. Collaborate with divisions, schools, and offices to offer relevant programming and resources.
  4. Develop new contacts and partnerships with external organizations for the purpose of expanding experiential education and employment opportunities for students and alumni.
  5. Maintain positive relationships with current employers to ensure continued success.
  6. Provide career advising for students and alumni, including career planning, graduate school, job-search assistance, interviewing, and resume and cover letter writing. 
  7. Conduct workshops and programs for student, faculty, employer, and alumni groups. Evaluate programs for effectiveness.
  8. Coordinate internships and other work-related experiences for matriculated students.
  9. Teach a one-credit career development course.
  10. Assess services and programs regularly to determine effectiveness and make changes as necessary to meet student, employer, and faculty needs.
  11. Ensure that services and programs are timely and relevant.  Stay current with trends in careers and the job market. 
  12. Provide, review, and update resources on Career Center portal page as needed.
  13. Periodically review career software to determine usage and effectiveness; purchase relevant software as deemed helpful in assisting students and alumni.
  14. Assist in College student recruitment efforts, including Open House, Accepted Students Day, and other activities as requested.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  1. Master’s degree required, preferably in higher education, counseling, business, human resources, or similar background.
  2. Minimum 3 years’ experience in career counseling and/or services, recruitment, or similar field; 2-3 years supervisory experience preferred.
  3. Knowledge of job trends and career development skills.
  4. Ability to reach out and interface with employers and organizations in order to establish, advance, and maintain mutually beneficial relationships.
  5. Strong ability to work and coordinate with other College administrators, faculty, staff and academic schools/divisions and offices to offer career programming.
  6. Ability to assess the effectiveness of services and programs, using qualitative and quantitative data, and to make meaningful changes based on assessment results.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Experience conceiving and implementing career services and events, including networking events, career preparation workshops, career fairs, grad school fairs, etc. preferred. 
  9. Familiarity with career management systems such as Purple Briefcase, Handshake or Simplicity preferred.
  10. Familiarity with career assessment tools such as Focus 2, MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, or Career Explorer preferred.
  11. Teaching experience at the high school or college level, including online teaching skills preferred.

Location. Newburgh, New York. The Mount is conveniently located in the Mid-Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and New York's capital city, Albany. The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.

Athletic teams. The Mount offers Men's Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, and Track and Field, and Women's Basketball, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Field, and Volleyball.
