Art History Lecturer: Generalist

The Department of Visual Arts at Coastal Carolina University, accredited by NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design), is seeking applications for a full-time lecturer position in Art History to begin August 2022.

The successful candidate will be broadly trained in art history. The lecturer’s primary responsibilities include teaching art history survey courses, which are required for the Department’s majors and are also included in the University’s core curriculum. Depending on interest and expertise, the lecturer may develop specialized courses in their area(s) of research.The ideal applicant will have a Ph.D., although candidates at the ABD stage are welcome to apply. Undergraduate teaching experience beyond assistantships is desirable. Salary is nationally competitive. This is a one-year renewable position with benefits. Teaching load is five sections per semester.
The Department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, Art Studio, and Graphic Design and the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Art and Visual Communication Design as well as a number of minors. This highly collaborative and active department encourages close-knit classroom experiences and promotes experiential learning that highlights faculty areas of expertise and research. We seek teacher-scholars who have a demonstrated commitment to underrepresented and underserved communities as well as the academic success of all our students.

Required Qualifications:

Must have completed 18 graduate hours in the relevant discipline, hold a master’s degree or meet the established alternative qualifications, and exhibit strong potential for excellence in teaching. Maintain currency in academic discipline.
