Competitive candidates will have:• a Ph.D. or be ABD in Digital Humanities, English, or other relevant humanities field with a specialization in digital humanities (the expanded field);• a strong record of teaching integrated humanities courses.
Preference will be given to candidates who:• demonstrate experience teaching digital humanities at the undergraduate level;• teach and/or participate in critical making work.
Digital Culture and Design is affiliated with the Digital Commons, a state-of-the-art computing facility and classroom, and the Athenaeum Press, a student-driven publishing lab that offers students professional level hands-on experience in authoring, designing, and producing innovative new media and analog stories about the region. Students in the DCD major collaborate with faculty on research projects that range from the development of archives, to the design of experiential locative and trans-media narratives, to the translation of cultural heritage artifacts of underrepresented populations across print and digital media. The Kimbel Library makerspace contains a range of technology in virtual reality, 3D scanning and printing, and CNC digital fabrication.
The Department of English (https://www.coastal.edu/english/) aspires to create a diverse and inclusive community of scholars that promote reading and writing critically through an open exchange of ideas so that our students can better understand—and write perceptively on—the historical, cultural, and aesthetic dimensions of language and literature. Furthermore, we are committed to innovative teaching and strongly encourage the development of experiential and multimodal learning. The department offers two majors: the B.A. in English and the B.A. in Digital Culture and Design. We also offer six minors and house the M.A. in Writing program, which prepares students for careers in writing, editing, and publishing or for further graduate study in M.F.A. or Ph.D. programs.
