Position Summary:

This is an Academic Advisor II position in the Franklin College’s Graduation Certification Office. Advisors in this office provide academic support to students and departmental advisors. A large percentage of this job involves working with student records and communicating information to students and advisors via email.

Additionally, advisors in this office also have departmental advising responsibilities. Therefore this position has two distinct but complementary aspects.

All academic advisors must maintain consistent contact with their students, maintain accurate student records, and respond in a timely manner to questions from their students. Regular attendance at weekly staff meetings is mandatory, and workshop and retreat attendance is also an expected part of the position. Franklin College academic advisors must be available to work throughout the summer to advise students during summer orientation as needed.

This position offers an opportunity to create and enhance programming for the benefit of students advised in the college. Advisors at this level also assist with training and observation of new advisors and may be asked to serve on hiring committees. An Advisor II often collaborates with other offices, colleges, and organizations campus-wide that serve students.

A long-term goal of this position is that this advisor is expected to take ownership of at least one significant administrative project or area of expertise, in addition to their regular advising responsibilities.

Meet with students to recommend courses for the next semester, prepare advising forms, answer student questions, direct students to resources on campus. This involves extensive prep time and up-to-date awareness of campus and departmental resources.

Graduation Certification

Each semester, academic advisors within the Graduation Certification Office are responsible for reviewing the academic records of each candidate for graduation within the Franklin College.
Advisors review every aspect of each student’s record, communicate with each student, highlight potential problems, and graduate those students who have completed their degrees.

Graduation certification advisement provides students with highly specific and detailed written summaries of all remaining graduation requirements for a student’s chosen degree program(s).
Advisors provide each student with accurate information about the student’s degree program and related academic procedures, policies, and steps for problem resolution as needed.
Advisors at this level are expected to be subject matter experts in the areas of curricular requirements, degree audit exceptions, academic appeals, Board of Regents policies, and graduation.
