Position Summary::

The Assistant Director of Fire and Rescue will provide professional advising services to clients and students and coordinate the provision of program services. Responsibilities may include implementing service offerings; scheduling classes, activities, instructors, and/or staff; communicating and advertising activities and services; administering related grants; administering testing activities and advising students in their application; maintaining program and student records; teaching classes; and providing referrals.

Staff Required Education/Experience::

Bachelor’s degree in field related to area of assignment and two (2) years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Desired Education/Experience/Skills::

  • Master’s degree with at least 1 year as a fire officer at a municipal fire department / NC Fire Rescue Commission
  • Fire Instructor 1 Certification.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities::

Knowledge of: Program analysis and administration principles and practices; Applicable programs, policies, standards, processes and procedures; Customer service principles; Teaching principles; Grant and budgeting principles; Computers and related software applications.
Skill in: Analyzing processes and identifying improvements; Monitoring grants and budgets; Monitoring and evaluating programs; Preparing and maintaining records and reports; Teaching classes; Providing customer service; Using a computer and related software applications; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

The college's New and Expanding Industry Training office has earned national recognition for cooperative training efforts with area industries. Focused Industrial Training designs innovative educational programs for the service region's manufacturing sector.

An important function of the college is to provide educational programs on the pre-college level. Literacy Services offer adults the opportunity for meaningful social and occupational growth through Adult Basic Education (ABE), Human Resources Development (HRD), and the High School Equivalency Program (GED).
