As a member of the Department of Risk Management, reporting to the Sr. Director, Global Health, Safety and Security, the Assistant Director, Global Health, Safety, and Security is a key contributor to the university’s commitment to supporting all faculty, staff, and student travelers. This position collaborates with the Director, Education Abroad & Overseas Campuses, Temple Rome, Temple Japan, Temple’s emergency services provider and international health insurance, to assess university needs on an ongoing basis and assist in the development of support structures. Serves on the Temple University International Incident Management Team (IIMT) and in the absence of the Sr. Director, Global Health, Safety and Security.

The Assistant Director oversees the implementation of the International Travel Policy, providing detailed risk assessments and mitigation plans, as well as interpretating and clarifying policies in support of institutional stakeholders. Establishes the necessary training programs focused on health, safety and security components of travel. Manages relationship between the university and its emergency services provider and international health insurance provider. Serves as a first responder on a rotational basis to support travelers with routine incidents, while being available to support all Temple University travelers in a 24/7/365 in the event of an emergency while away from campus.

Global health, safety and security is a fast-paced field that requires constant innovation to meet the evolving needs of the travelers. The Assistant Director role ensures a high level of support is always available for Temple University travelers and further ensures that the Sr. Director, Global Health, Safety and Security is fully supported with long range projects and 24/7 emergency response. Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least four (4) years of work experience, preferably in higher education or experience in a relevant field (study abroad, student program management, emergency coordination, international travel and security). Experience should include creating and running training programs, emergency or incident response, and/or advising and supporting individual travelers. Demonstrated customer service or stakeholder engagement experience. Experience with research strategies and tactics to analyze and report on location specific risks and recommendations to move forward or refrain from traveling. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

* Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, including the ability to establish cooperative working relationships with supervisors and colleagues 
* Proficiency in all standard computer applications, including Microsoft Office products, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
* Stays current in international risk management and health & safety and educates university personnel in the best practices in those areas.

Preferred:
* Master’s degree
* Foreign language competency and/or time spent living, working, and/or studying outside the United States.
* Experience with advising students, student groups and program management.
* Experience developing and delivery training to diverse audiences.
* Experience with international security or intelligence analysis.
* Experience with international insurance.
* Familiarity with the capabilities and operations of U.S. government agencies responsible for the support of citizens abroad.
* Experience in incident or crisis management.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
