Job Description

The Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement seeks a qualified program manager to assist in the ongoing development of work-based learning programs to support students seeking career changes and local employers looking to upskill and retrain their workforce as a result of COVID-19 workforce fluctuations. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Internships, the Program Manager will use independent analysis and judgment to strategically cultivate long-term relationships and strengthen communication between students, employers, and faculty to create and develop work-based learning and academically relevant career opportunities to advance student career readiness for program eligible students. ** Non-benefits eligible, part-time, Term limited administrative staff position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

This is a grant funded position. Grant funded positions are contingent upon available grant funding.

Responsibilities

  • Manage bi-weekly approval of student timesheets through communication with student site supervisors. Coordinate with financial aid department on pay (if/as needed). Coordinate hiring of students through Human Resources (HR) portals and maintain all student requirements with HR.

  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures for work-based learning programs.

  • Address and report health, safety, or legal liabilities of/from students if/as needed.

  • Provided regular reports on student data and outcomes; assist in the development of the final report required for the program as well as monthly reporting of partnerships, participation, and expenditures.

  • Track completion of required orientation and training for student employees.

  • Apply knowledge of or experience in pandemic workforce development, COVID-19 related work requirements, and application of policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate Employer Agreements/MOUs in collaboration with Assistant Director for Internships.

  • Communicate with faculty on student progress for students engaged in academic-credit internships.

  • Assist in employer recruitment and development of student positions that align with academic programs or student career goals.

Required Education and Experience: (Salary is commensurate with education and experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.

  • Three (3) years of related experience.

  • Experience in the coordination of student learning activities.

  • A working knowledge of risk management issues and workforce liabilities.

  • Community relations experience, particularly in San Antonio, is preferred.

  • Experience in managing multiple competing priorities.

  • Proven ability to develop cooperative relationships among faculty, staff, administration, and University leadership.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in applicable field

  • Three (3) years of experience in higher education, to include program management, assessment/reporting, budgeting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting.

  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures, practices and activities of Federal Work Study or similar programs.

  • Knowledge in servicing and supporting students from low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented populations.

  • Knowledge of program design, delivery, assessment and evaluation.

  • Knowledge of principles and methods of organizational and personnel management.

  • Skills in developing and facilitating partnerships; developing and delivering programs, and exhibiting excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Skills in writing effective and clear program policy.

  • Skills in program reporting and maintaining program records.

  • Ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, alumni, administrators, and community partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently as a leader and as part of a team and a strong commitment to cultural diversity.
