SUMMARY:

The Department of Higher Education & Learning Technologies at Texas A&M University-Commerce invites applications for a tenure track Associate Professor position in library and information science or related discipline. The faculty appointment is a 9-month tenure-track position with summer employment dictated by student-demand and departmental needs. The department seeks outstanding applicants to teach in library and information science, with specialty in the areas of school librarianship and information technology.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach courses primarily online in library science;
  • Mentoring and supervision of in-service teachers’ field experiences; providing formation and summative evaluations following TEA stipulations;
  • Advise students (masters and doctoral);
  • Maintain an active research agenda and publish in journals relevant to the discipline;
  • Actively serve on department, college, and university committees;
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and community;
  • Using formative and summative evaluations to observe and evaluate in-service teachers following TEA stipulations
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Doctoral degree in library and information science (ABD considered) or a closely-related field/discipline of instructional design, educational technology, information systems or user experience;
  • Masters in Library Science (MLS);
  • Current Texas certification in school librarianship;
  • Experience with instructional design, integrating technology into curriculum (K-12), library administration, information science, and teaching graduate courses online;
  • Using formative and summative evaluations to observe and evaluate in-service teachers following TEA stipulations;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and intellectual contributions of the discipline (research);
  • Knowledge / Skills: Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to: Problem-solve, multi-task, and work collaboratively with colleagues and community.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrate excellence in using technology and teaching graduate courses online;
  • Classroom teaching experience and proven record as an accomplished practitioner as demonstrated by student learning;
  • Background in library program administration and information research i.e., Destiny, Discovery Education, TexQuest, LMS or others;
  • Mentoring and supervision of in-service teachers’ field experiences following TEA stipulations;
  • Observe and evaluate in-service teachers field experiences; provide formative and summative evaluations following TEA stipulations;
  • Have strong potential for research and scholarship; and
  • Active participation in professional organizations (e.g., TLA, ALA, ISTE, AERA; ACRL);
  • Ability to problem-solve, multi-task and work collaboratively with colleagues and others.
