Job Description

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine is seeking a pathologist experienced in blood banking and apheresis.  The service site is at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Blood bank service includes quality management of the work process, assurance of proper blood usage and prompt handling of transfusion related medical issues.  Apheresis service includes stem cell collection, red cell exchange, plasma exchange, photopheresis and other therapeutic apheresis procedures.  The service load is relatively light and two other pathologists also participate in the services.  The service is considered to account for only part of the effort of the new faculty.  It is anticipated that the new member will also participate in medical services in another chosen specialty field or conduct biomedical research in a given area.  The education of residents and staff is also part of the duties.

This position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor depending on the experience of the applicant.  Candidates should have a medical degree (MD or MD/PhD) and board-certified/eligible in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology or other related medicine field.  Fellowship training in Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine is desired but not required if candidates are eligible for other forms of certification.
