The School of Engineering + Technology at Western Carolina University (WCU) has an opening for an Assistant Professor of Engineering beginning August 2022. This is a nine (9) month tenure-track position. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a candidate has been selected for hire.
The successful candidate should have an interest and commitment to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, scholarship, and professional service to the university and region. Many faculty pursue scholarship and application-focused research with external clients through our nationally-recognized Rapid Center. All engineering and engineering technology programs are accredited by ABET’s EAC and ETAC, respectively. The college has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a top tier Undergraduate Engineering program for the past several years.
Programs in the school have a strong emphasis focused on applied, Project-Based Learning (PBL) evidenced by the industry experiences of the faculty. Applicants with practical laboratory and industry experience will be reviewed favorably. Applicants should have an interest to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in one or more of the following areas:- Computer-Aided Manufacturing- Manufacturing Processes- Material Testing and Characterization
The successful candidate should have a commitment to excellence in teaching and applied scholarship, based on the Boyer model of Scholarship. Successful applicants will have proven excellence, or potential, in teaching, scholarship, service, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Many opportunities for service exist both inside and outside the university. Applicants should have an interest and be able to teach at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels including thesis supervision and laboratory instruction.
Candidates with extensive practical laboratory and experimentation backgrounds are highly desirable.
