Position Summary

This position is in the Department of Biology at San Diego State University under the superstition of Dr. Donatella Zona. More details on the ZONA lab can be found at http://zonalab.sdsu.edu/

The Postdoctoral Fellow will over-see the operation of 5 eddy covariance towers and associated equipment on the North Slope of Alaska, reduce and analyse the resultant data, prepare proposals, progress reports and research papers, and instruct and oversee interns and graduate students in the lab and in the field. The successful applicant will be able to develop the research objectives, publish the research results in peer-reviewed journal and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Full-time, temporary position. Initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility to extend. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Education and Experience

  • PhD in ecology, atmospheric science, or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study
  • Standing in the research field as shown by multiple publications on eddy covariance data analysis
  • Experience of managing research projects and research teams.
  • Experience with field work, collecting and analysing eddy covariance data, and publish papers in peer reviewed journals
  • Experience in supervising students

Specialized Skills

  • Possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop/follow research programmes and methodologies, including knowledge of eddy covariance data processing.
  • Record of research output in high quality peer reviewed journals.
  • Must be able to travel to San Diego (CA) and Alaska, and spend enough time in the field to maintain operation of the eddy covariance towers and help co-supervise other students.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of groups.
  • Evidence of the ability to collaborate actively within the Institution and externally to complete research projects and advance thinking.
  • Able to participate in and develop external networks.
  • Able to balance the pressures of research, administrative demands and competing deadlines.
  • Able to work in a team and help other students to achieve their research objectives.
  • Help to identify sources of funding, generate income, build relationships for future activities.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring salary: $50,000 - $65,000 annually

SDSU Vaccine Policy
