Job Description

The Admissions Specialist I, under general supervision, is responsible for entering, collecting, and evaluation admissions applications, documents, and data and review each application and corresponding application file for admissibility to the University while adhering to all federal, state, A&M system, and institution policies. This position works in the Admissions Processing area under the Office of Admissions. This position is responsible for working independently on assigned responsibilities, as well as collaboratively and cohesively with the Admissions team. This position has very limited student interaction and the majority of the responsibilities are computer-based.

This position normally works Monday-Friday; 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. May work beyond normal office hours to include evenings, weekends, and peak work periods.

Travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Verifies admissions application data from ApplyTexas in the Banner student information system and enters data and makes corrections, as needed.

  • Assists in collecting, updating, and processing student record information.

  • Processes applications, transcripts, test scores and other credentials for admission from prospective undergraduate students and determines admissions status.

  • Matches admissions credentials to file and updates status in Admissions systems (Banner, department logs, etc.)

  • Evaluates undergraduate domestic transcripts, which may include: evaluating course equivalencies, academic status, repeated courses, etc.

  • Enters transfer course data into Banner.

  • Handles internal telephone calls and departmental email duty. Sends correspondence to applicants who email the departmental account or routes to appropriate department.

  • Provides in-service information/material for Admissions counselors and other staff on occasion.

  • Receives Admission audit reports and makes corrections, as needed.

  • Evaluates students in an effective, accurate, and timely manner while adhering to all while adhering to all federal, state, system and instructional policies and procedures.

  • Must provide excellent customer service.

Education & Experience:

  • Associates degree and no prior experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of A&M-San Antonio and admission requirements.

  • Prior college admissions work experience.

  • College course work or degree

  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand high school and college transcripts.

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with student information systems software (Banner or equivalent product).
