Post-Doctoral Research Associate - Nuclear EngineeringRegular, Full-time, Pay Grade 00

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an outstanding candidate to undertake a post-doctoral position in the core-edge integration and divertor area within the University of Tennessee-Knoxville UTK fusion group.

The post-doctoral researcher will be responsible to explore innovative approaches toward addressing power and particle exhaust as well as integration with the plasma core for advanced tokamaks through model-driven divertor optimization and experimental work to isolate key physics and stress-test models.

The position will require code development, state-of-the-art computational modeling with codes like SOLPS-ITER, STRAHL etc as well as executing cutting edge experiments at collaborating facilities worldwide to advance the Divertor/SOL science and its interaction with the pedestal and the plasma wall interaction physics.

The successful applicant will be expected to execute competitive research, publishing in recognized scientific journals, pursuing research projects with initiative and determination and present the research to nationally and internationally appropriate conferences. The researcher will be an active team member representing the UTNE Department at UTK and at collaborating facilities worldwide.

The position will require travelling to coordinate experimental research and present results.



Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Position requires a Ph.D. in the physical sciences (Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Astrophysical Sciences) or engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear, Electrical).

The successful applicant will have prior research experience with experimental and computational modeling in plasma physics and/or fusion energy research and/or plasma-material interaction.
