Systems AdministratorCoastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Systems Administrator in the Office of Information Technology Services.

Under general supervision, the Systems Administrator provides administration of multiple systems, databases, and services for the academic and research community including but not limited to the Computer Science and Marine Science departments.
Duties will include but are not limited to: act as the system administrator for designated Linux, UNIX and Windows systems that support the academic community/assigned departments and in collaboration with key IT and academic staff members; serve as first responder to user inquiries; develop and maintain documentation of all customization and upgrades; implement and maintain compliance with current security and service protocols and standards; manage updates and maintenance on designated academic lab machines, file servers, and virtual environments including the creations and maintenance of Unix and Windows accounts for the departments; consult with users regarding applications programming requests, applications training, user support and troubleshooting; analyze user applications programming requests related to overall program goals and system functionality and recommends solutions; assist with the administration, maintenance, and support High Performance Cluster (HPC) for Sciences as well as the Cyber Infrastructure to handle large data transferring, processing, and computation; facilitate system development to support the curriculum objectives in preparing students for the real world and researches, evaluates, recommends and uses emerging and/or relevant methodologies, languages and technologies; provide exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large; document all customizations and upgrade and facilitate the successful implementation of software upgrades; write and maintain software code, queries and reports and programs applications using current tools and languages; assist supervisor with contributing to the improvement of operational procedures and standards as well as change management processes in alignment and collaboration with ITS goals and objectives to advance the University mission; ensures and maintains information security and confidentiality; assists with cross-training ITS colleagues to ensure business continuity; and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field and experience in Technology Management, Web Application Development, or System Administration is required. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Four (4) years of progressive experience in technology management, web application development, or system administration is preferred. Experience with CentOS/Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows servers and workstations, Ansible, FreeIPA/Red Hat IdM, oVirt/RHEV, Slurm, Apache httpd, NGINX, Apache Tomcat is preferred. Programming experience in Bash and Python, experience with support of research projects as indicated by publications and experience with electronic publishing are also preferred.

Systems Engineer I (AM20/61121797/FTE-S00601P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 07. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university. Flexible work hours to include occasional night and weekend hours. Information confidentiality is highly critical. Some travel may be required.

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Advanced knowledge of Systems Administration (Linux & Windows), familiarity with virtual environments (VMware preferred), and professional Web Application Development experience (portfolio) is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to function in a team-oriented environment. Knowledge of Linux & Microsoft operating systems. Knowledge of software programming, testing and debugging. Knowledge of web server and database administration. Strong analytical skills. Ability to learn, test, deploy, and troubleshoot a variety of software applications, including emerging technologies.
