About Us

Centralia College is located on a 30-acre campus in the heart of Centralia, Washington and has been serving students in the Lewis County region since 1925. As a comprehensive community college, Centralia College offers academic transfer and workforce programs, as well as adult basic education, ELL, and personal enrichment classes. The college also offers five Bachelor of Applied Science degrees: Information Technology - Application Development, Diesel Technology, Applied Management (Business), Behavioral Healthcare and Teacher Education.

In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Since the college is committed to the success of all students, Centralia College also provides educational programs at two corrections centers in southwest Washington - Garrett Heyns Education Center located in Shelton, Washington and the Cedar Creek Corrections Center located in Littlerock, Washington. Job Description

This program provides training to women and men in application development, including mobile, web and desktop applications as well as database design and integration. The courses present students with a broad development background, which prepares them to compete for entry-level and higher positions in information technology occupations such as application developer, software engineer, web developer, mobile applications developer and database developer/integrator.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Information Technology Instructor is responsible for teaching introductory through advanced lecture and lab classes in Information Technology, which include but is not limited to: C#, C++, HTML/CSS, Java, JavaScript, and generalized Object-Oriented Coding programming concepts. Additional teaching topics include data access techniques, application development methodologies, Design Patterns, mobile development, relational databases, Software Engineering concepts, writing secure code and general cybersecurity education and awareness, web application construction, and other application and data development classes at the Associate and Bachelor’s level.

The instructor will participate in professional and community service activities; provide curriculum and program development, advise students, participate in college activities, attend faculty and committee meetings; and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Demonstrated prior experience in application development
  • One-year prior teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of relevant work experience in the field
  • Demonstrated competencies in one or more areas of cyber security
  • Demonstrated proficiency with presentation software
  • Experience using Learning Management system (Canvas)
  • Master’s Degree preferred

Additional Qualities:

  • Vocationally certifiable by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges;
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in professional and community activities;
  • Demonstrated ability to serve the needs of students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, education, and cultural backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and advise students

This is a full-time, tenure track faculty appointment with employment expected to begin Fall Quarter 2022, subject to state legislative funding. The State of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for all state employees.

Compensation
Placement on the established faculty salary schedule is dependent upon education and teaching experience.

The Region

Centralia College East

Centralia College East (CCEast), located in Morton, represents Centralia College's dedication to meeting educational needs of the residents of central and eastern Lewis County. CCEast provides registration services, educational advising and tutoring, Running Start, career counseling, assistance with financial aid, adult literacy tutoring, GED, T.E.E.N. program for pregnant and parenting teens, placement testing (COMPASS), and online access to Centralia College's library resources. Some classes connect CCEast students to the main campus via interactive television. The CCEast Organization of Students offers additional activities for students.

Garrett Heyns Education Center

The Garrett Heyns Education Center (GHEC) is located within the Washington Corrections Center, a medium security correctional facility situated on a 455-acre site three miles north of the city of Shelton. The Corrections Center is located 50 miles north of Centralia College's main campus and houses approximately 1,600 inmates. Centralia College has participated in an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections to provide educational services for offenders since 1975. GHEC is a branch campus of Centralia College.
