JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut is accepting applications and nominations for the full-time position of Assistant/Associate Athletic Director, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (University Staff Professional 2) within the Division of Athletics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): serves as the consultative advisor to provide advocacy, education, and programming for sustaining a climate of equity and inclusion within the Division; activate, oversee, manage, and support the Division’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan which focuses on enhancing and sustaining an inclusive culture within the Division; serve as the liaison to the University’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion and collaborate on the overall development of the Division’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan; guide student-athletes as they navigate issues related to social justice; in consultation with the Office of Human Resources, supports institutional efforts to recruit, support and retain a diverse workforce for the Division of Athletics; works with the Office of Labor Relations and Division leadership to use incidents as moments of opportunity to move DEI work forward; diversify spectatorship around athletic events; engage with donors to share the Division’s vision and plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion; and serve as the NCAA athletics diversity and inclusion designee.

Strategic Leadership: routinely initiates independent communication and interaction with a wide range of individuals from inside and outside the Division of Athletics; aiding in the development and implementation of programs and processes which serve to assure the welfare of all student-athletes; and performing additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Four years of related experience working in a higher education setting or comparable industry
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or advanced degree
  • Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience in developing initiatives and educational programs in equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Experience in applying for and/or writing grant applications
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of NCAA regulations
  • Experience in facilitating difficult conversations, and demonstrating conflict resolution skills
APPOINTMENT TERMS

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
