POSITION X2251 Extension Assistant, Community Health LOCATION Department of Family & Consumer Sciences, UT Extension, Institute of Agriculture, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN EFFECTIVE DATE July 1, 2022 SALARY AND BENEFITSSalary is commensurate with training and experience. This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon performance and funding. Benefits include group hospitalization and life insurance; State Employees Retirement; Workers’ Compensation; sick and annual leave; numerous University of Tennessee and state benefits programs, including liberal time off for holidays and longevity pay after three years of service; reimbursement for official travel. JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Extension Assistant is responsible to the Assistant Dean for the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) and works under programmatic direction of the grant Principal Investigator (PI)/Associate Professor for Community Health. This position will be responsible for providing support to the grant-funded TN Vaccine Education program, Falls Prevention programs, and other priority projects for Family & Consumer Sciences and Community Health. Included activities involve delivery of current, research-based subject matter information and educational training to Extension agents, community partners, and volunteers; developing educational materials for public distribution to support educational programs; planning and conducting regional and statewide events and supporting educational curriculum development; and planning, conducting, implementing and evaluating educational program components to meet the needs of all participants under supervision of project manager(s) and grant PI.

- Contribute to curriculum development activities, including preparing lesson guides and PowerPoints; developing and edit educational support pieces; and design educational and promotional materialsManage and monitor digital assets for assigned projectsCoordinate program development activities with other entities (internal and external to UT); monitor progress to ensure timely execution of priority tasksPlan and organize social media education and promotional efforts for assigned projects; develop or coordinate development with appropriate subject-matter specialistsCoordinate distribution, review, and revision of educational materialsMaintain communication with Extension agents about program Coordinate meetings, create and maintain communication with grant support teamsOrganize and assist with conducting in-service training for agents, volunteers, community partners, and Extension clientelePlan and conduct educational activities for supported projects, including appropriate teaching methods to include in-person and virtual deliverySolve problems and proactively address anticipated issues and needsDevelop reporting guidance and communicate to program implementersTrack program delivery and manage participant data, including reporting to appropriate databases; communicate county-level evaluation data Assist with collecting success stories for assigned projectsAssist with grant report preparation
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (public health, health education/promotion, family & consumer sciences, behavioral science; public administration, organizational or project management, etc.)
- Served as an Extension Assistant I for 1 to 2 years with a satisfactory or better performance rating and evidence of ability to work well with colleagues and clientele.Familiarity with Extension or Extension experienceMaster’s degree in related field Experience coordinating multi-site projects
- Excellent organizational and time management skillsDemonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently coordinate activities of multiple units/teamsDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal means with internal and external audiences Demonstrated ability to manage and monitor grant budgets, deliverables, and reportingAbility to apply sound judgment, work independently, and problem solveAbility to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholdersDemonstrated ability to develop, edit, and deploy digital communications, including video and asynchronous educationProficient skills in Microsoft Office, social media, and other technologies required to fulfill roleDemonstrated interest in professional activities of the discipline in ways other than teaching and/or technical Extension work.
