Job Description Summary

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Wake Forest University is seeking applications for a full time Interim Director of Theatre. MFA or Ph.D. preferred or advanced degree with experience required. Teaching and Production experience required. Term of appointment for this staff position is one year, beginning July 1, 2022 and ending June 30, 2023.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Theatre Artistic Oversight

  • Coordinate play selection process.

  • Communicate with Department Chair on faculty loads.

  • Coordinate audition and casting schedules, rehearsal process, technical rehearsals and strikes.

  • Hire and oversee guest artists.

  • Works with Director of Dance and Artistic Director of Dance Concerts.

Facilities Oversight

  • Addressing safety issues and setting work standards for safety.

  • Oversee scheduling of facilities.

  • Plan and coordinate capital purchases and long-term projects.

Production Oversight (Theatre and Dance)

  • Oversee production process, staffing and scheduling for 6 productions.

  • Oversee operations of Front-of-House, Design & Technical Production areas for WFU Theatre and Dance.

  • Facilitate the integration, coordination and cooperation of the Department of Theatre and Dance productions.

  • Coordinate student and guest productions.

Financial Oversight

  • Planning and budgetary control of operating budgets & funds including plan and coordinate capital purchases and long-term projects.

Staff Management and Development

  • Audience Services Coordinator

  • Technical Director

  • Costume Studio Manager

  • Costume and Wardrobe Assistant

  • Manage Student Participation for THE 100 and THE 110L

Course Load

  • THE 100 Participation

  • THE 110L Participation

Other Functions:

  • Additional related production management tasks that arise, affecting regular duties and charges.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Teaching and Production experience required.

  • Ability to plan and coordinate details for meetings and events and provide on-site support.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Budgeting and fiscal management skills.

  • Proficiency with most Microsoft Office and Adobe applications.

  • Ability to manage and maintain confidentiality of records and information.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to organize workflow and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to research and resolve constituent problems and questions.

  • Accuracy and attention to details.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Familiar with Workday, Google Apps.

  • Interest in updating skills on a continual basis.
