Job Summary The Department of Human Services in the Dewar College of Education and Human Services seeks applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position to serve as the Program Director for Social Work for the 2022-2023 academic year. This position seeks applicants who are experienced, highly motivated, culturally proficient, and effective social work educators. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, leading the Social Work program, program administration, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Department of Human Service is housed in the Dewar College of Education and offers graduate programs in Counselor Education, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, and a Gifted and Talented endorsement. The Social Work program was founded in 1995 and has been reaffirmed by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Commission on Accreditation. The program utilizes signature pedagogy in order to prepare students for a career in professional social work practice. Responsibilities The program is seeking an energetic Program Director who can work within the academy and community to build a strong foundation for a high functioning Social Work program. Reporting directly to the Department Head, the Program Director position has a focus on administration with the expectation of teaching. Duties of this position include:

    liaising with the Department Head of Human Services and the Social Work faculty; working closely with the Director of Field Placements to ensure a strong linkage between didactic and experiential learning; strategic planning; teaching; communication; program administration; conducting and publishing research; attending and presenting research at conferences; participating in student advising; assisting or leading grant opportunities; assisting in creating a strong linkage between My Friends House and Social Work faculty and students; ensuring continual compliance and maintenance of full accreditation status by the Council on Social Work Education; lead the Social Work program in the reaccreditation process; performing other appropriate duties to maintain a high functioning program.

Typical Allocation of Duties:

Teaching and scholarship - 30%
Teach classes and conducts/presents research in the employee's academic discipline.

Recruit and supervise - 20%
Recruit and supervise the work of full- and part-time faculty and staff. Evaluate the work of faculty and recommend faculty for tenure and promotion.

Curriculum development - 20%
Coordinate the development of department curriculum, courses, and schedules. Oversee clinical programs as appropriate.

Administrative functions - 20%
Direct the department's business and administrative functions.

Student services - 10%
Coordinate the delivery of student services within the department.

Required Qualifications
    Doctorate in Social Work (Ph.D. or DSW); MSW from an accredited CSWE program with a minimum of two years post master’s experience; demonstrated active engagement in Social Work practice; held the rank of Associate or Full Professor; possess an understanding of the Social Work field; demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning as illustrated by a record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage; record of scholarship appropriate to rank and discipline; commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
    A record of effective and high impact teaching practices in higher education appropriate to the applicant’s career stage; ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting; experience with grants as an administrator or generating deliverables; a record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds; minimum of three years of successful leadership or supervisory experience; administration experience in higher education; licensed eligible or willing to become a Georgia Licensed Social Worker (LSW); licensed eligible or willing to become a Georgia Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Conditions of Employment

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
