The Director of Student Affairs Planning, Assessment, and Evaluation partners with the Vice President for Student Affairs and the executive leadership team of the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students along with two Assistant Vice Presidents to lead a culture of assessment and improvement in which units undertake regular program evaluation and data analysis and engage in alignment with strategic priorities. The director will enhance divisional effectiveness by leading, developing, implementing, and managing assessment, evaluation, and planning processes and infrastructures; and by providing data analysis, program assessment, and strategic planning support for all units within the Division. Reporting to the Assistant VP for Student Affairs for Administration, this position serves as the content expert, facilitator, coach, and consultant to divisional staff across 13 departments regarding assessment, evaluation, and planning.

  • Manage, develop and enhance processes and infrastructures that support division-wide planning and assessment
  • Develop and implement Division-level assessments and evaluations
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the design, implementation and interpretation of assessment and planning applied to programs and services across the Division of Student Affairs
  • Collect and transform data to provide insights for division-wide management and organizational learning
  • Coach and provide consultation to managers and department heads to engage in the process of critical evaluation of their assessment practices with goal of maximizing informative assessment and use of assessment results for improvement
  • Identify staff training and development needs related to assessment and planning; develop and deliver trainings to address identified needs
  • Work collaboratively with IT and other units within the Division of Student Affairs, the University, and vendors, as necessary, in support of assessment and planning infrastructure.


  • Master’s degree in student affairs and higher education, program evaluation, or a related field
  • Five years of related experience
  • Strong skills in quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis
  • Experience using and managing assessment and evaluation technologies including survey tools (Qualtrics, Baseline, Survey Monkey, and statistical software packages [SPSS, SAS, R, etc.])
  • Demonstrated experience assessing programs and services
  • Demonstrated experience influencing or leading staff outside of line supervision
  • Experience developing and delivering trainings and workshops
  • Experience developing large-scale planning
  • Must have a demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with the ability to present complex analyses of data to varied audiences


  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with the ability to present complex analyses of data to varied audiences
  • Professional certification or graduate certificate in one or more of the following: program evaluation and assessment, statistics and analytics, project management, strategic planning, performance management, or similar
  • Experience developing and leading the assessment efforts in a student affairs or other higher education context
  • Professional experience in student affairs
  • Understanding of current issues and trends in higher education, including student learning and development
