The Dean of Students and Deputy Title IX Coordinator will focus on student development and support, with primary focus on student engagement, student thriving, retention, persistence, and accountability. The Dean hires, trains, and supervises professional staff overseeing these areas of focus, oversees unit budgets, and creates and coordinates campus-wide programs including sexual assault/harassment training and awareness, New Student Transitions, First Year Experience, Community Life and Student Conduct. This position supervises three directors, part-time community learning position, and two graduate assistants.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership, vision, management, resource provision, support, and empowerment to an operation that includes: New Student Transition programs, First Year Experience, Student Involvement, retention and persistence research and strategies, Student Conduct, Title IX case investigation and resolution, and campus-wide sexual assault/harassment training and awareness
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic affairs leadership, division chairs, Registration & Academic Services, Residential Learning, Center for Student Success, Admissions, and cabinet-level administrators to recommend systems and processes that enable offices and departments to communicate effectively regarding students high-risk of not persisting, making academic progress, or graduating
  • Foster and reinforce a team culture of unity, humility, and devotion
  • Oversee department budgets and closely supervise chief spending authorities as well as supervising profit centers by creating proper systems and processes to account for all revenues and expenditures
  • Serve as the chief student conduct officer
  • Facilitate Case Review Board meetings and communicate board decisions to appropriate parties
  • Oversee IWU-Marion Title IX investigations and case resolution
  • Oversee publication of annual student handbook and provide policy suggestions and recommendations for the student handbook
  • Manage campus-wide sexual assault/harassment educational programming and awareness initiatives
  • Be on-call and available via cell phone for university emergencies and crises
  • Research and communicate contributors affecting the student learning, growth and success of IWU-Marion students
  • Coordinate “Campus Climate” Survey and other similar surveys
  • Serve as campus administrator for Maxient incident reporting system and Aviso student success software
  • Serve on the Student Life Council, the Deans’ Council, RiSER, CERT, C.A.R.E. Team, and other committees as assigned
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and ongoing individual meetings
  • Speak and represent the University as requested; attend and present at professional organization conferences
  • Work directly and collaboratively with a team of Deans and Associate Deans
  • Work in coordination with a shared Administrative Assistant who supports the budget accountability process, Datatel expectations, scheduling, ID card creation, as well as overall secretarial functions for the Dean
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Development
  • Supervision of the Director for Student Involvement, Director of Student Conduct, Director of Student Transitions, Part-time Co-Curricular position, Student Involvement Graduate Assistant, and Student Engagement Graduate Assistants.

Education

  • Master’s degree in appropriate area required
  • Doctorate preferred

Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse communities and cultures
  • Demonstrated history of successful mentoring and work with undergraduate students
  • Brings a proven record of effective team building and collaboration across departments and with faculty, administrators and co-curricular educators, and support personnel

Required Skills

  • Demonstrates a mature personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of IWU
  • Demonstrates an understanding of academic policies and procedures, curricular pathways, and graduation requirements
  • Possesses strong technical skills and a high comfort level within a computerized environment
  • Working knowledge and experience with student conduct and Title IX
  • Exhibits outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to make well informed decisions, solve problems and coordinate a variety of activities and tasks
  • Reveals exemplary organizational skills, attention to detail and the capacity to develop efficient and effective systems for the implementation of policies and processes
