The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University seeks applicants for a Co-Director of the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH) Transplant Center of Emphasis and inaugural Chief of the Section of Hepatology to join the Department and Division as Associate or Full Professor in the University Tenure, University Medical or Clinician Educator line.

• The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching.
• The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
• The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

Academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The ideal candidate should have leadership experience or exhibit potential for leadership. We expect the Pediatric Hepatology Section Chief to participate in the care of children before and after liver transplantation and manage children with complex liver disorders. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the care of children with acute and chronic liver disease, evaluation process for transplantation, and the long-term management of liver transplant recipients. The successful candidate will be involved in formal and informal teaching of Pediatric residents, fellows, residents and fellows in other specialties, medical students and other graduate students. To be considered a candidate in the University Medical line or the University Tenure line, the successful candidate must have a focused research interest and a high-quality research program, preferably with a strong record of exceptional research mentorship. The successful applicant should have a M.D., D.O., or M.D./Ph.D. (or D.O./Ph.D.). and the typical candidate would be board certified in either Pediatrics or Internal Medicine with subspecialty training in gastroenterology and transplantation of livers.

It is an exciting time here at Stanford and in the Pediatric GI Division. We are a rapidly growing group with major momentum. We are a high-volume liver transplant program with a dedicated interdisciplinary team. We have a vision to develop the entire spectrum of hepatology along all arms of the academic mission. To achieve this, there is much wind under our sails, as evidenced below:

Seventy five percent more faculty in the last three years, new Chief, new junior hepatologists. Within the last three years, we increased our faculty by 75% and continue to grow, based on the mission, and fueled by strong institutional and community support.

ACGME-accredited pediatric transplant hepatology fellowship, started in 2020.

Clinical research registries and a unique intellectual hub for hepatology. We joined SPLIT in 2019 and are actively joining numerous multi-center registries. Our faculty have garnered support to lead PSC initiatives, acute liver failure studies, and interdisciplinary programs in cardiac hepatopathy, among others. There is an interest in recruiting hepatology researchers who will tap into the unique intellectual hub for academic excellence in hepatology at Stanford and biotechnology in the Bay Area. Stanford and Stanford Children's Health have slated a trajectory to achieve many milestones in hepatology, while maintaining our excellence in liver and multivisceral transplant. We benefit from unparalleled science at Stanford in immunology and other fundamental collaborations, deep resources from the Center of Emphasis (CEO) in Organ Transplantation, and infrastructural support for team science through specialized funding and philanthropy.

Leadership growth opportunities. There will be major leadership growth opportunities as Section Chief and Co-Director of the Center of Emphasis in Organ Transplantation, which provides a point of cross-fertilization across the academic institution and the hospital.
