Position SummaryThe department has strong interdisciplinary research and educational programs built on a foundation of varied biomedical and engineering disciplines, and it provides first-class education while engaging in research at the frontiers of engineering and science. The BME department was established in 2017, building on a strong, 160-year history of educational and research programs in engineering along with sustained excellence in both human and veterinary medicine. The BME department has 14 primary faculty and 23 joint faculty members. Many BME faculty have joint appointments or continuing collaborations with departments in the College of Human Medicine, College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the College of Veterinary Medicine. The department has strong research programs in biomedical engineering, with annual research expenditures from the primary faculty of about $12M. The BME department and College of Engineering have a strong track record of mentoring junior faculty to successfully grow their academic careers. The department is housed within the new Institute of Quantitative Health Sciences and Engineering building, which includes state-of-the-art laboratory facilities (https://iq.msu.edu/). The department currently offers graduate programs (MS and PhD), with approximately 46 full-time doctoral students. Required DegreeDoctorate -Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field
Minimum Requirements- PhD in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field
- Track record of significant contributions to the biomedical engineering discipline
- Potential/ability to establish a sustainable and internationally recognized BME research program
- Evidence of ability to be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students
- Interest in/evidence of institutional and professional service
- Dedication to the university’s mission in diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, teaching, and service
- Additional research experience beyond the PhD, through a post-doctoral, industry, or faculty appointment
- An ability to participate in BME curriculum development
- Ability to collaborate with current faculty in the Department as well as throughout the university
