Executive Director, Office of Career Strategy - Georgetown University Law Center

Job Overview

The Executive Director serves as the number two within the office and works closely with the Assistant Dean to create cohesive, comprehensive, and innovative programming, outreach, and advising strategies to support Georgetown Law students and graduates. Their responsibilities fall into three main categories: 1) development, coordination, and implementation of staff and advisor professional development initiatives; 2) acting as liaison between the multiple operational teams within the office; and 3) advising 1E/2E evening students as well as supporting those students interested in work on Capitol Hill.

Work Interactions

The Executive Director supports the Assistant Dean in managing the workflow of the office; and works closely with each of the three functional teams (1L Team, 2L/3L Team, and Recruitment Team) to ensure that all team members are aware of the initiatives and priorities of the other teams - and that, to the extent there is cross-collaboration, that that collaboration is done efficiently and effectively.

With a large team of 20 staff members), the Executive Director consistently employs clear communication in creating frameworks and strategies to increase efficiency and prioritize clarity, and works with other administrative offices to ensure that our team members are aware of important programs and deadlines that relate to the work that we do with our students.

The Executive Director also schedules, creates, and implements professional development trainings for OCS staff and advisors on a regular basis. They collaborate with team leads on the training of new team members and works regularly with existing team members to assess progress on both individual and organizational professional development goals. As well, they regularly meet with the Assistant Dean to discuss trends in the legal market and whether there is a need to pivot our training accordingly.

Finally, the Executive Director supports the job search efforts of our 1st and 2nd year evening students; creates and maintains resources for use by students interested in opportunities on Capitol Hill; and serves as the designated point person within the office for advising students of those opportunities. They also work with the Assistant Dean to support those students who are struggling with their job search and need additional support; and step in when the Assistant Dean is out of the office.

  • Juris Doctorate
  • At least 9 years of law student career advising experience
  • Experience in private sector
  • Knowledge of Symplicity
  • Coaching training preferred

Work Mode: Hybrid (3 days on campus; 2 days telework). Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
