Research Technologist
The Armanios Lab is seeking a Research Technologist who can help maintain continuity in a research project that has already been launched analyzing genetic data in an understudied cancer. The ideal candidate will have some background in this area, will have been involved in a similar project in the past and will keep meticulous records. The analysis will involve potentially maintaining a large database of data including genetic and clinical findings regarding tumor type and outcome. This position is fully funded.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Organize and analyze genetic data for research study
  • Literature review and analysis to establish novelty of findings and setup background
  • Maintain requirements for Human Subjects Research
  • Help prepare manuscript for publication
  • Prepare work for presentations within and outside Johns Hopkins
  • Communicate with lab members to coordinate work, share progress, and identify areas in need of troubleshooting


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related field
  • Experience in clinical research as well as genetic analysis as well as some molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA preparation, PCR, DNA manipulation using enzymes, cloning, other common DNA/RNA/protein techniques) and mammalian tissue culture desired
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Self-motivation and an interest in biomedical careers
  • Microsoft office proficiency, especially Excel

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Eligible to work in USA
  • Masters degree (Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering or other related life sciences fields)
  • Prior biomedical laboratory research experience
  • Previous background in cancer research and epigenetics will be an advantage.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
  • Enthusiasm, reliability, and dedication
  • Ability to learn new computer skills and applications quickly

Starting Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hr (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
