Overview:

The School of Communications at Quinnipiac University seeks applicants for adjunct faculty appointments in the department of Film, Television and Media Arts. The department seeks candidates with a background in history, theory and criticism and/or with extensive production experience to teach beginning and intermediate level courses in film studies and cinematography.

About the Department:

The Department offers BA and BFA degrees in Film, Television and Media Arts and an MA in Cinematic Production Management.

The strength of our film program is an integrated, collaborative curriculum that provides a foundation in all aspects of filmmaking, including: screenwriting, directing, producing, cinematography, sound acquisition, editing, post-production, as well as history, theory, and film analysis.

This student-centered department has a strong sense of community and the faculty are highly collaborative in teaching, research and creative endeavors.

About the Ed McMahon Communications Center:

The Ed McMahon Communications Center is a first-rate production facility equipped with industry standard technology and equipment for hands-on training in all aspects of film, television, journalism and multimedia production. Highlights of the center include a three-camera HDTV studio, a professional-quality audio production suite, and several 4K editing suites. Labs and classrooms are ideal for independent and group-based work, as well as a variety of multidisciplinary projects.

The Center’s 80 high-performance workstations enable students to work with numerous multimedia and imaging applications, such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and other industry-standard software including Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting.

An extensive equipment loan room makes professional caliber video and audio recording equipment and support gear available for use in the field. An inventory of over 100 digital cameras include Sony A73s, Canon EOSRs, Canon C-100s, Sony FS5s and Red Dragon Scarlet Ws.

Education Requirements
  • Required qualifications include BA and minimum of five years professional experience, or MA.

  • Preferred qualifications include an MFA in film, or PhD in film studies.

Qualifications:

  • University level teaching experience is required. Additional experience in delivering hybrid and online courses appreciated.

  • Knowledge and interest in world cinema and transnational cinematic movements, including: Latin American, Latinx, African American, African Diasporic, Asian Pacific American, Native American, Middle Eastern, and East Asian cinema.

  • Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community is expected. Candidates should be able to address issues of race and representation in all of their courses. Our ideal candidate will also possess a keen awareness of the current issues around diversity, inclusion, and equity within the film and television industry.
