The School of Engineering (SoE), Office of the Dean, is looking for an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our human resources team in the role of Talent and Inclusion Program Manager. In partnership with the University HR (UHR) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) office and in alignment with SoE's Equity and Inclusion Initiatives team, this role will drive the implementation of staff focused strategic programs and initiatives that will support and advance organizational leadership diversity and accountability, learning and development, inclusive culture and employee engagement, equitable policies and procedures, and community engagement. As a senior member of the SoE HR Team, you will have the opportunity to champion change initiatives and design and lead events, workshops, committees and communications to further DEIB. This position will also play a pivotal role in driving the evolution of talent management across the organization. You will partner with a variety of academic and business units to execute a broad range of HR generalist activities in support of the SoE mission, with an emphasis on identifying programs, processes and resources that will address organizational-wide talent management priorities such as workplace flexibility, manager/leadership development, succession planning, retention, and onboarding. You will be part of a collaborative team, working alongside other HRBPs and HR Administrators, reporting to the Director of Human Resources. Job purpose:

Collaborate with school and university leaders to develop and implement strategy, policy, and process for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Establish a structure of learning solutions and oversee the implementation of talent development programs and initiatives. Provide a full range of human resources services for assigned client groups. Work proactively to address a variety of complex problems and/or organizational issues, interacting with a diverse group of individuals on performance management, employee and labor relations, organizational design, disability management and compensation.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Plan and provide talent management strategy, direction, advice, and counsel to senior leaders and HR business partners.
  • Collaborate with the organization's management to support the implementation of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) and other talent management initiatives by understanding the organization's objectives, issues, needs, and key success factors. Participate in planning processes and promote best practices.
  • Design strategies for facilitating organizational and behavioral change. Perform needs assessment, analysis, and consulting on organizational issues; make recommendations on organizational design and development issues.
  • Lead the talent processes, tools, and frameworks with appropriate customization at the school/business unit level.
  • Provide coaching for employees/program participants.
  • Deploy measurement system to track and report progress on talent management to university management.
  • Advise and make recommendations on talent management problems and practices. Develop and conduct relevant training and participate in training design.
  • Investigate basic and complex employee relations issues and initiate appropriate resolution; recommend and facilitate effective solutions in alignment with applicable policies and laws.
  • Oversee performance appraisal process; design procedures and documents specific to the organization, as needed. Provide relevant coaching and guidance.
  • Oversee organizational-wide view of talent management (recruitment and staffing plans), and structure offers. Support or lead higher level searches, and advise on affirmative action objectives, as needed.
  • Manage area's salary-setting program. Advise managers on assignment of employees to appropriate classification levels; review and approve salary actions; design and/or manage incentive and bonus programs, as needed.
  • Oversee processes for workers' compensation, disability, leave, workplace accommodation requests, and health and safety issues.

To be successful in this position, you must have:
  • Bachelor's degree and five years relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a strong partnership with senior human resources partners and other members of the management team.
  • Deep expertise and experience developing and implementing effective talent management solutions, including workforce planning, learning and development, performance management, diversity and inclusion, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Strong instructional/curriculum design skills and experience.
  • Strong program/project management skills and experience.
  • Ability to build the confidence of others through open communication and respectful behavior.
  • Ability to connect with customers, partners, suppliers, and colleagues across functions to achieve significant results.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience as a consultant and advisor to management
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and understanding of group dynamics. Successful track record of establishing credibility and trust with a diverse client group.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, judgment, negotiating, influencing, and decision-making skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent facilitation and oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and deliver formal presentations or training to senior management and other audiences.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite and human resource information systems.


In addition, preferred qualifications include:
  • PHR/SPHR certification
  • Experience and/or certification in project management
  • Demonstrated commitment to building inclusive workplace culture


Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a computer; use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.
